Surgery 8/1, Dreading Pre-Op Diet And New App

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm starting my pre-op diet tomorrow and I am dreading it to say the least  . I feel like I breaking up with a boyfriend. I've had a food "bucket list" and even though I have had pretty much all of my favorites it still seems weird.

How does everyone else feel who is about to or has started their pre-op diet, it makes it easier to think that I am doing this for surgery and THAT much closer to making it to the loser's bench! :)

Anywho, I wanted to share an app (android) I came across that I LOVE, it counts down the days, it's called Days Left. I've attached a screen shot of my homescreen below, I set up one for my liquid diet and another for surgery. post-48579-13813669967999_thumb.jpg

Oh thank you for posting this..I needed a place to go to put my thoughts out there into cyberspace. I broke up with food last night. Today is day one of a 2 week pre op diet. Surgery is scheduled for 8/6. I think right now what I am feeling is primarily mental. I feel "fuzzy" ... like the beginnings of what it must be like to go through withdrawals. I know I sound a bit dramatic...and I know it will pass as my body gets accustomed to not eating everything in sight. Or just to be able to eat when I want to.

I am on a 3 shake/2 bar diet (Breakfast shake, snack bar, lunch shake, snack bar, dinner shake). I am allowed certain veggies. I think I will go invest in a few bags of those veggie steamer bags.

Thanks for the app suggestion. I will definitely go check it out! Looking forward to sharing our trials, tribulations and successes!!!

My pre-op diet started the 11th and I know exactly how you feel.all I thought was what if I didn't get it all in?i was eating more then I ever did the couple of days before I started.

Im not going to sit here and tell you it will be ok and time will fly by!it was a long 2 weeks for me,some days really were rough.mentally I was going nuts!i found that when I kept busy I wasnt thinking about all the food I couldnt eat.i picked up hobbies and cleaned nonstop lol!after the first week your so excited that all your focus is on the surgery!

You can do it,it's hard but you'll be ok.keep busy, take it day by day and blend your shakes with ice to make a smoothie...it will fill you up more!

Goodluck!!!!!!just keep your eye on the prize

The pre-op diet, as hard as it seems, is so much easier than the 2 weeks after surgery!! At least you can eat normal portions lol The 2 weeks after surgery is such a mental game. You want to eat, you know you need to eat but YOU CAN'T!! Enjoy the pre op diet, don't fret over it too much, your life is about to change so much that when you look back at the pre op diet, is seems so much of a smaller problem than we all thought it was when we were going through it!!! Congratulations and good luck on your sleeve journey! It is a ride and I wouldn't change a thing =)

I am on day 9 of pre op (started a wk early) and it DOES get easier. Not saying it gets "easy" but you do kind of get past the hump, a little less groggy, and craby and even hungry. The first few days your body still has the carbs and sugars it is trying to get rid of and you are starving.

I tried to stay as busy as possible...it may seem like that will not work when you are starving and your stomach is yelling at you, but seriously if you can get your mind on something else you would be suprised how time goes by and you realize you have made it to the end of the night.

Also, I have been drinking Water like a mad woman....that helps too. Mixing protien shakes with ice also seems to make them "frothy" and even though it is the same amount of liquid if just mixed with water/milk alone....it makes you feel more full and satisfied.

Even though I feel "empty" and have fleeting moments of eating one last taco or something small I already feel healthier and believe it or not, seem to not be huffing and puffing as much as before. No crappy food in my body feels pretty good!!!

Just my thoughts.....you can do it and it is SOOOOOOOOOOO worth it!

Made2beme - why did you start early? I was thinking about it just to get over the hump earlier and feel like i was doing something instead of just waiting. first 4 days is suppose to be green fruits/veggies & one shake and then 3 days of liquids. I dont' care for fruits/veggies so I'll probably do 7 days of liquid.

I started early because I had approx 23 lbs to lose pre-op. I was right on the borderline of being BMI 49-50 and it was going to cost more (I am cash pay) AND be more possible complications (which is why they charge more) if I was BMI 49 or over. So, I HAD to lose 23 lbs.....I am 18 down now with 10 more days to go, so I think I will do it. Believe me, if I could have waited and just started this week I would have. But, I am glad I did it....now I can go into surgery hopefully 25 lbs less. Just that much less to lose post-op!

I started 6 days ago on my liquid diet. Today I am doing better, had a day or two of not feeling really good. Lightheaded, aches, and mild headache. I am having trouble getting in my calories so far but I will work on improving in the next few days. the hunger does subside, very much. I am still looking for a Protein Shake that I really like. I think the whey Protein tastes different than soy protein. Not liking any of them right now!

I have surgery on 8/02. I started my pre op diet last week just to get a good start on shrinking my liver. On Sunday, I felt as though I had the flu coming on. Monday and today have gotten better. I quit diet Pepsi so I think that has something to do with it. I did not have numbness but last night I was super tired. I think that is just from lack of calorie intake.

Oh my goodness, I was feeling the same way. I start friday, but I thought if I built up to it by doing 2 shakes and a meal this week, it might be better. The headaches and lightheadedness are tough. I'm starving. The shakes taste bad. I hope it's worth it!

My surgery date is 8/23, my coordinator who I also work with says I need to lose 20 lbs. How they hell is this possible. I was thinking about starting my pre surgery liquid diet on 8/1 to give myself time to get use to just liquid. Does anybody else have to lose weight, if so, are you exercising? Did anyone get the surgery without pre op weight loss. Im just scared that I won't lose the weight and this would be all done in vein. Exactly what is everyone drinking since she just gave me a few options verbally. broth, SF Jello, Water, like a fool I got a pen and paper thinking she was going to give me a list. YEAH NO!!! I just feel lost anyone have any suggestions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
