M 1 month and three days Post-op, I'm freaking out cause I've been on this stall for a really long time, I usually don't get too worked up but it's been like this for the longest. What can I do to get out of it, I honestly like feel like I should starve my self or something despite the fact that I'm hardly eating anything to begin with! I haven't started exercising, but should I? Will it help?! Ugh sooo frustrating..

Exercise could be your missing link to this. Start small- and listen to your body. I also heard you can hit a major stall if you are not consuming the recommended Protein. Not enough protein can slow the metabolism down. Good luck, and don't worry too much- the weight will come off. :)

First of all, relax. Your body is going to lose weight. It has to. Second of all, how much are you eating and drinking? Not enough calories or not enough Water will slow down your weightloss. I don't know what your intake is but do not starve yourself. You may need more to keep your body from going into starvation mode.

As for exercise, it's always a good idea. I don't know why someone would have this surgery without adding regular exercise to your daily routine. It should be a part of your new healthier lifestyle. Starving yourself should not be part of it. Also, have you taken any measurements? Often you can see areas shrinking with the tape measure even though the scale isn't moving.

Work the program and it will work for you.

If you have only been 1 month preop, how long could the stall be :)

Everyone stalls, keep your body nourished and hydrated, exercise and it will come off - you got this! Just wait it out.

I will be 4 weeks on Wed & I havent lost a pound in almost 2 weeks!!!!! I think its the lack of Protein & Water on my part. The shakes make me sick. I have yet to find anything that stays down. I havent started exercising yet either. I want to get adjusted to eating right first . I'm VERY frustrated.

Don't get frustrated, get protein:-) Look up BariWise products. They have a wild berry that goes in Water and taste just like fruit punch!. Protein, water and exercise and the weight WILL come off.

I love the BariWise products. I too like the wild berry, lemonade, crangrape and pineapple orange. Also from Bariatric Choice the ProtiDiet Fruit Drinks are good. Start with the variety pack. If you want something warm the Bariwise hot chocolate with marshmallows is awesome. These products have helped me so much with getting my Protein. Good luck!

I can completely speak to this... The dreaded "3 week stall".... I posted regarding this about 2 weeks ago. I am a little over 6 weeks out (will be 7 on Thursday). I was/am getting my Protein, calories, and walking every evening. The one area I had a deficit in was getting my fluids in.

I'm happy to say that I've finally broken through my stall. I've lost 4lbs since last Friday (today is Monday). I have lost a total of 42lbs since beginning my 2 week preop diet.

I would like to mention that I took a week off of walking - not by choice, just random circumstance. I resumed walking this past Saturday and have increased my distance each night. I'm thrilled to have broken through this stall and elated that I am back on track.

Hang in there! From what I understand everyone thinks the 3 week stall won't happen to them (and its more likely it will), and there's really not much you can do to mentally prepare for it. By the time you reach 3 weeks out, you've crossed over to the other side and as long as you follow the program prescribed by your doctor, you'll push through this and find yourself sharing your personal account with others like me! :)

My "three week stall" started at two weeks and lasted almost 5 weeks even though I was exercising, getting Protein, Water, etc. And then I lost 15 lbs very quickly and the scale is still moving, just not quite as fast. Just give it time, it WILL happen if you follow the guidelines.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
