8 Months From Surgery And Just Joined!

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Although I had my gastric sleeve 8 months ago I have to be honest and say that, whilst I have dipped in and out of weight loss forums both leading up to and after my op, I have not really been actively involved.

Now, I feel so passionate about my weight loss surgery and the results that I have already achieved that I thought why not share it with people who are either going through the same thing and feel as on top of the world as I do, or are maybe considering having the sleeve and want to talk to somebody who can give first hand experience (and because I have most likely run out of friends and family to bore with my elation now!!).

I can honestly say that there is nothing better I have ever done in life than have the sleeve! And I doubt that anything else will ever match the feeling of happiness that it brings (aside from having my kids of course, but thats a given!).

I have so far lost 92lbs and feel amazing!! I have about another 14lb to lose which just seems incredible since, all of my adult life I can never remember being less than at least 5st (70lbs) overweight - it just feels like a small mound to overcome now as opposed to the mountain that I was always faced with.

Life is fantastic!! - I cannot stress that enough!

I could go on (and on, and on) about how I feel but dont want to bore you all - just to say, im friendly and approachable and would be more than happy to speak to others about their journey, share ideas of just answer questions from those of you who have either decided to have the surgery or are still thinking about it.

Bye for now

Hi Kellie,

Congrats and I am so happy for you! You are definitely inspiring! I am scheduled for my VSG in September and am working on losing some weight before my surgery. What do you feel was your biggest challenge in regards to your keeping on track? What do your meals consist of 8 months out? How much do you exercise?

I will stop here with my questions.

Thanks and good luck with your lat 14 pounds!

Dottie

Hey thanks all - how lovely to hear your support and encouragement!

And Dottie - how great that you have your surgery coming up, you will never look back, I promise.

OK - as far as challenges go, I dont think there are any! I guess the one thing I have to be aware of food wise now is not using things like crisps to snack on as they go down really easily, but as we all know, are sooooo bad for you! Other than that I find the whole thing plain sailing.

Honestly, before the surgery I was a food lover - I seemed to snack all day long, eat portions that were far too large and basically - although my excuse was "I dont really eat that much, and I dont understand why im overweight" I knew in my heart that I did and it was all my fault - that is why the sleeve is so fantastic - not only does it take away your desire to want to eat, it also stops you eating too much.

So - the only thing left is to ensure that you eat enough of the right foods - thats probably the challenge of sorts, but hey, im in a routine now and its working!!

I do try to vary my foods but at the same time, since I am not really a food lover any more (dont worry, your love of foods will be replaced with the love of your legs not rubbing together, the smaller clothes you can buy, the compliments you receive, the sidewards glance from the odd man ..... yep, its finally happened to me!! and so many other things that food just cannot give you the same level of joy for).

My average day goes something like this:

Breakfast - 1 egg scrambled on a ryvita (no butter)

mid morning - a small handful of mixed nuts

lunch - well today I had two slices of ham wrapped around some salad leaves to make a kind of wrap (sounds boring but I cannot eat bread so its the next best thing) and a packet of snack a jacks.

For dinner tonight I am planning to have a small piece of salmon (about the size of a credit card if that makes sense, and maybe a centimete thick) with a bit of mixed veg. Simple!

I find that I mainly stick to eggs, chicken and fish but really, there is nothing that I miss - I dont even fancy chocolate these days which is an absolute miracle as I used to have at least one chocolate bar a day!

Hope that that helps Dottie? Im notorious for going off subject but hopefully I have included answers to your questions somewhere in my ramblings!

Trust me - and I cannot empahsise this enough ....... it will be the most life changing, exhilerating and rewarding thing you have ever done!

Very best

ps - Dottie ...... although I dont go to the gym I move everywhere at 100 miles an hour now, am always active, walk the dog probably far more than she would care me to and actually run (yes, run) around the with kids ...... must sort out some sort of routine soon with regards to swimming or cycling, but so far I cannot say that exercise has been high on my agenda.

Kellie,

Thank you for the reply. I am envious that you are already 8 months out. September can't get here fast enough. But, I know the time will be flying by and it will be here before I know it.

I live on a tiny island in the Caribbean with about 180 residents. So, no gym.... we have one tiny grocery store on island and our bank is open two days a week. I work as a scuba instructor/dive master and work/dive 6 days a week. My job is very physical...lifting scuba tanks and dive gear all day long. I take my 2 cats for a walk in the evening... and that is about it. I need to ramp my exercise program up. I have been thinking about trying the indoor walking with Leslie Sansone. At least, I can do it in the comfort of my own home with the AC on.

Again, you are an inspiration!

Cheers, Dottie

OMG Dottie ...... you are envious!!??? I live about 14 miles from London in a built up area, with an average of around 12 hours sunshine a year, nowhere to scuba dive and nobody ever walks their cats .... they are too streetwise to be treated like such royalty!! lol - that sounds idyllic hon, and cannot think of a better place to start and enjoy being the new you!

Your job sounds amazing - I am a photographer and writer, so half on location, half sat at the desk (well, thats the theory anyway but it seems to be more like 90% of my time at the desk at the moment - which doesnt do much for firming the buttocks - but hey, they are a lot smaller than they were!!).

September will come around soon enough, and just think, by Christmas you will be well on your way to the new you - hang in there - but I completely understand what you mean as that was me this time last year when I began the process.

xx

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
