Protein Bars

I had an appointment with my nutritionist yesterday. I told her that I was planning on having a protein bar for breakfast every morning. She told me that instead she would have a Greek yogurt. To me, the protein bars are way less in carbs, and high in protein. Does anyone use protein bars? What's your thought about my nutritionist's advice?

Getting skinny doesnt make you pretty on the inside

  • I just made my first batch of homemade protein bars! You can make them small and they are great.

The latest for me is the premier protien. They are a bit high on calories (about 280-290) but they also have 30 grams of protien. Not a bad idea to break these in half.

I just started making my own Protein bars. The ones I make using the Promasil chocolate Protein Powder is very close to 18g Protein, 10g fat, and 6 grams of carbs. The size is comparable to the Atkins bars. Mine are about 4"l x 2"w x 1/2 thick.

The best advice is to check out how easy it is to make on youtube. For me in my fridge it stays for 4 days. But thats only cause I make small batches. Btw you can always add or sub ingredients to adjust for your needs

Check out this video on YouTube:

Edit: also you could add any liquid or Vitamin powders to this as well. I dont know if any of you are willing to buy bulk powders but its way cheaper and pure.

those look yummy, like no bake cookies!!

They actually taste pretty good too. I have tried a few bars and didnt like em at all. I ate what I bought but I didnt buy any more of those brands. But these homemade ones taste pretty good. Mine tastes like homemade oatmeal Cookies... I can deal with that lol

I wonder about substituting PB2 for the Peanut Butter.

I actually thought about that myself. I tried pb2 once and immediately ran to the trash can. But mixing it with Protein powder and some steel cut oats and some dried cherry/raisins with a hint of Aguave necter might do the trick for me to be able to handle it lol.

Try some PB2 and let us know then maybe I will try and give it a shot.

PS I am trying to think of what I could use to coat a bar once I put some sugar free jellies on the bar. Trying to make a bar with a 2:1 ratio protein:carb but as a cold dessert bar. Calories doesnt really bother me as I fight to get in my 800-1000/day. I just stay focused on the 2:1 protocol.

I eat a lot of greek yogurt sweetened with sugar free syrups and it is rich and creamy (not for everyone though).

Where is a good place to find sugar-free syrups?

Just google Torani sugar free. Several places on line offer them. And you can buy direct

Yes, Torani has their own site and you can order direct. I live in Canada and get them at my local coffee house. I think you can even get them on Amazon.com.

We have a store here called World Market and they sell about 10 different flavors of the Torani syrup. I am here in Fl. So I am not sure if World Market is everywhere or not.

I love the Adkins protein bars. Free shipping from www.vitacost.com

They ones that taste like snicker, payday, baby Ruth, etc.

I like the Pure Protein bars. 20 grams protein, around 180 cals, 3 net carbs (17 carb - 13 sugar alcohol - 1 fiber = 3 net carbs... At least I think that is how that works!)

Protein bars are for suckers!! The calories and fat never seem worth it for low quality protein. For months everything smelled like fish to me,peppermint extract in a thick chocolate shake does not make a York but makes it bearable , green tea with vanilla not a bad chai, a little tang and vanilla =orangeade, isopure alpine punch two scoops 8oz water 50g protein a bunch of minerals 210 cal O carbs is what I'm using now does not smell bad. Hoping this helps !

Way to generalize!!! And just from one sucker to another, nothing you listed would I even try to ingest. Never liked York, vanilla is repulsive, and the isopure thing is a 50% waste. Your body can't absorb 50g of protien in one sitting. It's more like 20-27 so you still got all those calories for 1/2 the protien.

Sorry Otr but the 50g shake is split forgot to mention that. Btw sleeved 12/7/12 and down 136 lbs as of yesterday, how u doin ? If you are ever in jersey just holla we can hit the gym ... You do that, right? Or do you sit around criticizing people's posts and trade cookie recipes with the ladies.
