I finally got a date for surgery and got all of the insurnace forms, hastles, hoops, and rain dances completed. August 14th is the day. I am both excited and nervous. I know that the journey ahead of me is long, yet I hope that it is good. I am doing this for health and wholeness. I hope that when done I can truely be a healthy individual who can acclimate well into my community. I know surgery will be here before I know it. So much to do before then. The hard part is that most of my to do list is mental. There is very little I need to accomplish phsyically. Just have my protien shakes ready, my perscriptions filled, and complete my two week preop deit. Which is going to be tough.

I look forward to being able to post in the post sleve section soon.

I found if you make yourself eat smaller meals before starting the liquid diet so your stomach shrinks a bit, it makes it easier to not feel starved on 800 calories a day. You CAN do this, just keep your eyes on the prize and remember this phase is only temporary. If you haven't already increased your Protein intake and cut back on carbs, that will help a lot as well. Good luck!

Congratulations! I'm shooting for August 16, but of course as soon as I got my approval my surgeon's scheduling system went down! They should call me back on Monday.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. KSFortWorth, great suggestions. I will have to start doing that. I also have to break my nasty caffiene addiction. My doc says coffee is okay after 2 weeks but, since I drink about 20 oz a day for the last 10 years I should start tapering that down so I can avoid nasty caffiene withdrawls on top of surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
