Hello from Oklahoma

Recommended Posts

I am new to the board. I have been a looker for several months, and have found this site very informative. I am scheduled to be banded on Oct. 5th by Dr. Rumbaut in Mexico. I am excited and nervous at the same time. My weight has gone up and down for many years, and I am glad that I will be given such a great tool to help me get my weight under control. :clap2:

Hi and welcome to LBT! Congratulations on making the decision to get the band, I am sure it is one you won't regret. This is such a wonderful tool, I wish I would have discovered it years ago. If you have any questions, please ask away. We are here to help. Oh, and if you haven't already, make sure to check out the "stickies" at the top of just about every forum. They are loaded with really valuable information.

Welcome to LBT! The "sticky notes" is a great suggestion...and I always like to direct new members to the "search" feature...especially if you have specific subjects you want to know more about!

See you around....

I have a question regarding the preop diet. I only have to be on the liquid diet for 3 days before and 2 weeks after the band. I was given a list of liquid foods that I can drink, but I have never been on a liquid diet that long. I am wondering how I will make it that long? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Kimmiechelle

Three days pre-banding should be doable. It's hard, but you can do this. I occasionally did liquid fasts for other reasons.

Post banding won't be as hard. Your stomach will be swollen and tender and you probably won't want to eat much anyway. It's the most difficult just before you are allowed to move on to more solid food. I liked Tomato Soup from Trader Joe's. Warm and filling. I also blended protein-rich Soups and thinned them down with broth and milk.

Visit the food forum for some information.

Oh, Yeah! WELCOME TO LBT!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
