My First Full Week On The Sleeve...

Recommended Posts

My highest weight ever was 699...kinda decided then that i never wanted to be in the 700s...immediately went on a diet...spent a whole year going on and off diets..lost 60 pounds then gained 20...and repeated that for a year...going from 660 to 640 and back again.

Thats when I decided I needed to take drastic measures... I needed to have something that would give me a better chance of success... after looking at the different options the sleeve became my first choice and really only choice. Because of my Bmi the sleeve is the only surgery the Dr would do...but frankly I don't feel comfortable with subjecting myself to malabsorption and I don't trust lapband..I think that's a farce because of all the revisions I see...

So last Sunday was the day before surgery... for lunch I had a burrito bowl and 3 Cookies ..my last meal..I could have nothing to eat after 2 except clears and gross tasting magnesium citrate which I took at 6pm and took 3 hoursnto kick in and it was still going when I woke up at 4am the next morning...

Everything that day was very surreal...and I do remember being a bit scared. I started at the scale -649...then they took me to a station where I put on the gown and got in the bed. We were running late I believe because they were having such a hard time getting my iv in...eventually the super nurse dude had to come and do it..ie the nurse anesthetist..he was much better and only took one stick...all in all it took like 5 sticks and a bit of fishing to get me hooked up and ready.

The minute my iv was attached I was on my way...when they wheeled me into the OR I was shaking a bit from cold and nerves...I rolled up next to the operating table and wondered how in the hell were they going to lift me onto that thing..all of a sudden my bed was inflating like a raft and it kinda floated over to the operating table..they had to push and pull a bit but really only to guidenme to the right spot...

Then I woke up in intensive care...and was sleeved. The rest of the week was spent learning how my new tummy worked...and what I could do..really I just rode it out. Then came home after 3 days in hospital.

I have absolutely no appetite at all and eating is a huge chore...kinda wish I didn't really even need to do it but..I kinda do.

I Thought I was pretty prepared for the sleeve via this forum...but nothing can prepare you for the way you feel afterwards....for the first time in my life I don't feel like food controls me... I still have head hunger..but really after a couple bites I'm full and don't want anymore. I really have no desire for food...it actually seems repulsive and unappealing...

What's extremely appealing is that between 7/2/12 and 7/10/12 (today) I have gone from 649 to 623...that's about 3 pounds per day. I am definitely on my way and rocking this sleeve. Next year I will be half the man I am today!

This is definitely the best decision of my life.

Patrick, once again you come up with the most helpful and informative posts on this whole forum. I still have 4 months to go on my medically supervised diet before we can even get a date. That's a long time to think about things. By the time I go to the hospital you will be done with all the major medical and close to being on your new normal routine. I'm thrilled that you are letting me follow along with your progress so I can get a good picture of what I have to look forward to. Thanks and keep posting

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
