Still On My Metaformin? ( I'm Diabetic)

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone tomorrow will be 14 days out. I've lost 15 lbs so far (yeah!). The concern I'm having is that I thought I would be off my blood sugar meds all together after the surgery. Is there anyone out there that came off theirs relatively soon? I know that we are all different ( different times for different people), but I just getting concerned that I won't come off the rest of my meds. I will be seeing my surgeon and gastric Dr. this coming Wednesday and will be asking them. I just would like to know what others have experienced . Thank you.

I was told that I will need to consult with my PCP regarding my diabetic meds. I probably will not see her until almost 2 weeks post op for a regularly scheduled visit. In the meantime I don't know if I will be able to choke the Metformin down, and I plan to monitor my blood sugar more frequently post op that I had in the past and will take my amaryl accordingly till I see her.

I was sleeved in October 2011. I was on an insulin pump for 3 years prior. I came off insulin after one day. I am still on metformin, however. My AIC is now down to 6.4. My Endocrinologist said it would take time for my body to adjust. I am pleased that I am only on metformin. I can deal w/that after the pump. Hang in there, it will happen for you!

My husband left the hospital after getting sleeved off of all his meds--but everyone is different. Be sure you're checking your blood sugar frequently and keep a written record so you can show your docs, which will help y'all make informed decisions about your meds. You're going to be so much healthier in very short order--congratulations!!

Everyone is different. Have you noticed a change in your numbers? How frequently do you test?

I came off meds right after surgery, though I did require insulin a few times in the 24 hours immediately post op.

I noticed a drop in my blood sugars almost immediately and was considered "in remission" four months post op.

I hope that your doc will have some insight for you! It did take longer for my A1C to come down to a normal level.

They have taken 1/2 of my meds off right after the surgery. I'm still on (4) metaformin..2 in the am and 2 in the pm. My sugars in the am are usually around 118 and during the day between 108-130 during the day. I test about 3 times a day. Just wanting to come off the rest.

Hi Init! I was taken off my merformin 1000mg 2xs a day and glipazide right after surgery. Every time I check my blood I am within normal range. Hopefully you will get off yours soon!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
