Post Op Nausea And Vomiting

Recommended Posts

I rarely get nauseous and can't remember the last time I've vomited. I'm terrified of being nausous and vomiting after surgery. How common is it? I know the anesthesiologist will give me anit-nausea meds but I also know that sometimes they don't work very well.

Please....someone put my mind at ease! :)

I've only gotten nausea from drinking Water too fast :) and have NOT vomitted yet!! *knock on wood* I don't know how it is for anyone else, but my little pouch hasn't given me any problems like that!

I threw up for 3 days after surgery. They said it may have been from the anesthesia. Yes, it stinks, but it wasnt unbearable. Thank god for IV's

I woke up to vomiting in a bag ( sorry TMI ) right after surgery. I was nauseous and threw up a couple of times ( more like dry-heaved more than anything ) for the first day/night or so. It really wasnt that bad. I have been fine ever since. They sent me home with pills to prevent it but I didn't need them!

I was about the same as LesKra. First 24-36hrs was pure hell for me. Who knew I would die in the hospital of naseau is what I was thinking lol. At first I was throwing up stomach acid, but it turned into dry heaves. Just opening my eyes made my grab my bucket. I was given whatever meds they could give me, but nothing worked. The staff kept telling me it would pass soon....and all of a sudden it did lol. Only maybe once or twice have I felt nauseous since then. Still wouldn't change anything!

I am scared of the very same thing. I have heard stories from completely nauseous for a week to it being fine. So I guess we will find out!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
