Let This Be A Lesson... Measure Your Success!

Recommended Posts

To all those who think that success is only measured in pounds, I'm here to tell you you're wrong. If you're not taking measurements and you're just going by what the scale says (it lies BTW) you're only doing a disservice to yourself...

My starting measurements as of 1/1/12:

Weight - 278

Pants - 24/26

Tops - 2x - 3x

Neck - 14.5"

Chest - 47"

Arm - 16.5"

Waist - 42"

Hip - 55.5"

Calf - 20"

My measurements 5 1/2 months post-op as of today:

Weight - 196

Pants - 14/16

Top - L/XL

Neck - 13.5"

Chest - 40"

Arm - 14"

Waist - 37.5"

Hip - 47"

Calf - 18"

Don't sabotage your success by only looking at the scale - measure your success in whatever way you can! By my count I can Celebrate 9 successes instead of just one, and I dunno about you but when it comes to celebrating, more is better ;-)

Awesome!

I took my measurements the day I committed to the surgery, the day before surgery and plan on taking them monthly.

Good idea! I have my measurement from before surgery. I think I will take them each month.

I couldn't agree more. I took my measurements the day I started my pre-op diet (2/22/12) and posted them on my VST blog for all to see.

I have been doing very well on my program with what I eat and exercise, including going to a gym. When I was at the gym last night they took new measurements for me -- overall down 44 1/2 inches!!

2/22/12
7/5/2012

Weight:
286.2 214.3 - 71.7 LBS
.

Chest: 53.5 47.5 - 6 inches

Waist: 49.0 43.75 - 5.25 inches

Hips: 60 52.5 - 7.5 inches

Bicep ® 21.5 17.5 - 4 inches

Bicep (L) 21 15.25 - 5.25 inches

Thigh ® 32 24 - 8 inches

Thigh (L) 32 25.5 - 6.5 inches

Calf ® 18 17.25 - .75 inches

Calf (L) 18 16.75 - 1.25 inches

TOTAL INCHES LOST: - 44.5 INCHES

I am really amazed by this and would never know if it I hadn't taken those first pre-op measurements. So no

matter where you are - if you haven't taken your measurements previously - do it now so you can compare against

your future progress.

I'm sure it will be especially helpful when and if I hit a stall (so far I've been fortunate that I have not yet).

Thanks for posting this important reminder!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
