I'm having my first fill in a week or two and I am wondering if I have to request how many CC's of fill I want. When I called the radiologist office they said the DR would do some sort of laproscopy something to determine just where the band was placed and how big my stoma was. With a 9mm swedish band what should I expect for a first fill? I'm thinking maybe 3cc's?

Anyway in 3 weeks I have lost 18lbs. 14 of that the first week. I can eat enything right now and am just back to dieting until I get the fill. After the 2nd week I was feeling no restriction at all.

Hi Jenna,

The doctor will use a flouroscopy machine, which is basically a "live" x-ray. They just scan the machine over you to find where the port is.

I haven't had a fill yet (next week), but my assumption is that the dr. will check and fill it appropriately. I believe you have to drink some barium, which will show up on the x-ray or fluoro. But by using the barium, the doc can see how big the stoma is and if the liquids can get through. Then he/she will make the fill so that liquids can get through fine.

Again, I haven't had a fill yet, so maybe others who have had a fill can answer better.

Good luck!

Thanks Lisa,

Let me know how it goes. What kind of band do you have and what size is it? I'd like to know how much they fill you with the first time.

Hi again Jennifer,

I have a 9cm band with a 5cc balloon. I'm going to tell the doc to "fill 'er up!" We'll see what he does. I'll post when I get back next Wednesday!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
