I had my surgery on May 23, I had no complications and I had been doing ok...till about 2 weeks ago, I can't hold anything down, I'm as nauseas as all get out and I can't take much mOre of it:-( I went to my dr and they told me that it's not normal to feel this way, then gave me some Zofran...what am I supposed to do, take Zofran the rest of my life? I have lost 35 lbs so far but I would rather be fat than have to feel like this another second...anyone out there have this problem? What can I do???

So sorry you are going through this! I'd like to think if the Zofran doesn't settle things down for you and get you past needing it, they will investigate further, get to the bottom of what's really going on and get you healed!

I pray you get the relief you need soon!

What can you do? Take the Zofran! Right now, you're very early post-op and your doctor wants you to avoid further problems by taking the Zofran. I hope s/he eliminated the possibility of a leak before prescribing the meds, so you want to prevent an ulcer or other problems by using the anti-nausea meds.

Most likely, the Zofran won't be permanent. If it helps you finish healing, though, it's a wonderful thing. :)

I know that your just feeling miserable right now and scared. But this too will pass and you will not be taking zofran forever, it's just for right now. Congrats on your 35 lb weight loss, it's amazing but the best is yet to come! Hang in there and by the way, did they discuss or check for a leak? Just curious. Please let us know. :)

Yes, of course I'm taking the Zofran, what worries me is what happens when I run out:-( and no, they did not check for a leak but I will absolutely bring it up if this continues, the sad thing is I would SO rather be in pain, as to have nausea...thanks for the well wishes!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
