I will be 8 weeks out this Monday. I have done very well. I have lost 50 lbs. I don't weight myself so i don't freak out about stalls. Here is what happened...

I saw my reflection in my window and got depressed. I thought "oh wow my stomach is still there and I am still fat. Am I ever going to be thinner"

Has anyone else felt this way on your journey? You know things are going just fine and you are so thankful but you have that..." it isn't happening fast enough moments."?

Yes I still feel like that some days! And I am at goal. It comes and goes, and I sometimes I'm amazed that I'm wearing mediums.

I went from 330 - 128 before and there were times at 128 I actually felt like I was fatter than when I was 330. I have been 300 and thought I looked good >.< what a nut.

Unfortunately, this is where some sort of positive reinforcement and perhaps some psychotherapy could come in handy. Being at goal and thinking that you still look fat is not a good thing. You have to start finding ways to actually see yourself as you are and not being so harsh and critical on yourself.

Sometimes when we are so overweight we don't tend to look at ourselves as a whole in the mirror, we look at our eye when we do our makeup, we look at the chin, our earring, our hair, but we tend to glance briefly or not at all at ourselves from the top down. After we lose weight, we become hyper critical and look at each piece and evaluate it much harsher. This is something we have to overcome.

I went from 128 back up to way over 300 again and I'm on my climb down. I can tell you I'm a little harsher on my stomach now, that I loss 86 pounds than before, but because I didn't look at my stomach before, I shut down when it came to my weight. Now I try to keep that same mentality that I had before I lost the weight and say...okay, I'm breathing good, my clothes fit good, I look good and let it go at that.

Every day give yourself some positive reinforcement. Sometimes the mirror lies and we are our harshest critics.

I'm 9 months out, over 100 down... and I still have fat days. I still have another 25ish to go and these are going even more slowly then they did at the beginning. It really is all in our minds. Of course you are losing fast enough!! Of course you can tell you've lost weight. But there are some days where we just don't see it. It helps me on these days to think about how long it took me to put the weight on and how long I carried it around. It makes it a lot easier to realize I've taken most of it off in less than a year.

Chin up, get through the day and try to be positive about how far you've come!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
