Newbie with a major question

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a newbie. I went to the lap band seminar on Saturday and this morning I have my physical with the surgeon. I am excited to start my journey. I have learned so much on this board. I feel very well informed and ready. I just have one major question.

Knowing everything you have went through, Would you do the lap band again?

Thank you for your answers.

Mary:)

If I had the misfortune of losing my band, I would hope that within time I could get another one.

There will be bumps in the road, some experience larger bumps in the road than others, but I would do it all over again if I had to. The band is one of the best things I've ever done in my life!

Congratulations on your decision to get the lapband. Keep us posted on your progress.

Absolutely yes!! the pain and discomfort from surgery, the budgeting to be self pay, all of it pales in comparrison to how great I feel right now due to the band. I know I am going to reach goal, and that makes me so happy.

If I were to have to get a new band every year for the rest of my life, I would. I have NO fears of becoming Morbidly Obese ever again.

Best thing that has ever happened to me!

Hi Mary :D Your question is one of THE most asked questions by folks who are considering the band! There are a few who have gone thru some very rough times as a consequence of getting infections, band slippage, or erosion and it is easy to understand why they regret the day they even heard the word "LapBand". However, there are many many people who have been blessed by their band and are seeing tremendous results in their battle to overcome obesity.

I am one of those blessed ones who has lost 90 pounds in a little under 7 months. While I am constantly aware that I have a band, I never feel it is an annoyance or hinderance to my life. I wanted something there to remind me every minute that I have a goal I'm working toward, and that goal is better health and self esteem.

I wish you all the best in your journey. Please do keep us posted on your progress.

For sure, it has worked absolutely perfectly for me. Never had a pb, never had a single problem with the band. Its taking a long time to find restriction, but in that long time, I"ve almost reached my goal weight anyhow.

Would sign up again tomorrow, and I am 8 months out and only lost 36 lbs (still haven't gotten restriction correct). I know there is more positive results coming, and I know the difference I already see in my habits and patterns.

I would do it again in a heartbeat. It took me close to a yr. of jumping through hoops (I have heard problems and needed lots of clearance), but I breezed through the surgery on July 18 of this year and have never as much as had a gas bubble. I have been truly blessed to have lost 20 lbs. since my banding without a fill yet. I am looking forward to losing 35 pounds by Christmas time. My first fill is Sept. 19, and I can't wait.

I feel blessed at 64-years-old to have come through this with absolutely no complications. I can feel my port right beneath the skin it seems and I rub it now and then for luck and remind myself why I made this journey. I want to be around a long time to enjoy my 5 daughters and all my grandchildren and perhaps great-grandchildren too.

I had knee surgery the week before the banding, so I had 2 surgeries in 2 weeks, and still had absolutely no problems...no nausea, vomiting, gas, or any problems.

Best of luck to you on your new and amazing journey.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
