Counting Down The Hours!

Recommended Posts

I have to be at the hospital at 5:15 MONDAY morning and am scheduled for the 1st surgery of the day at 8:15. I have been so busy this week that I haven't had time to even think about it very much. All I can say is Wow! several times today I have thought to myself "hey girl don't you realize you are about to voluntarily remove 85% of your stomach, are you crazy? why aren't you nervous?"

I am so at peace about this whole thing it's so totally unbelievable. My only thought I keep having is what if I do this and don't lose the weight I'm gonna feel like a complete failure! Non-sense aside I can't wait to get my life back!

I thought the very same thing the night of my surgery! I promise..if you do what your weight loss surgery team tell you to do..you will lose weight. I am out 9 weeks and some days and down 53.5 # so I am sure you will lose weight! I'll save you a place on the loser's bench!

Your post is the reason I'm not going to tell too many people...just in case I can't make this work...just like all the failed diets of my past. But I think having this site and fellow sleevers who have gone before us will make the difference this time! Like you, I have never been more sure of my decision to have this surgery.

Best wishes to you and your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
