Hi everyone! Ive been reading through this forum because Ive seen a lot of people in other areas comment about having revisions from band to sleeve. I was sleeved in April, but had seriously thought about the band before. I decided against it just because I was leery of something that had to be adjusted all the time. Im wondering WHY theres so many revisions though? Did it not work? Or are there a lot of problems with it? Just curious to know :)

My band slipped. I had to have emergency surgery after having it a year and a half. We do not know what caused it to slip. My surgeon said my body simply rejected it. Unfortunately, the sleeve was not offered by my surgeon at the time of my surgery in 2009. A year after removal, I had re-gained 30 of the 80 pounds that I lost. My surgeon recommended me for the sleeve, but insurance rejected me. I finally just got approved after 6 months through a 2nd level appeal. My sleeve surgery is July 17th!

Wow! I worried a lot about slippage too and something foreign in my body. It was a hard decision between something that shouldn't be there, and then removing most of what SHOULD be there, lol. I'm glad you're going to be able to get your sleeve. Good luck!

i had the band for 3 years and had no problems with it. My problem was that I only lost 25 pounds with it. It did nothing for my hunger. The sleeve seems to have helped curb my hunger.

I've had the crap band for 9 years. Long story short, it sucked because it discouraged eating healthy foods but allowed me to eat sliders (chips, ice cream, rice, Pasta, and anything greasy or saucy). I just woke up from revision surgery yesterday and was told I would need to wait 3-6 months for my stomach to heal before i can get the sleeve because the band had so badly eroded my stomach. It is not just a piece of crap, it is a dangerous medical device which should be taken off the market.

I know...admittedly, I'm feeling a little bitter right now so forgive the rant.

I understand you feeling bitter after all that. Funny thing is, even though I love my Dr, when I went to the first informational meeting before my surgery, he did mention that sometimes there was slippage of a band but that it was "rare". Never heard about the other issues until I was on this website! Good luck to you on your journey!

Are you comfortable with your WL or are you going to get sleeved as well?

well thats the million $$ question right? I'm very scared to do another surgery. i have met with 3 doctors to hear what they thought. i had one dr tell me he wouldn't do it because of too much scar tissue, i think he just preferred the bypass. the other 2 doctors said there would be more risks for me since I've had the other surgeries and i also have staples left behind from my revision. I'm not sure what to do. i have in the meantime started a strict diet to lose this weight while i decide whats best for me. I'm so afraid of having problems like i did with the band. i just don't know what to do!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
