8 year smoker. I quit this past February with the aid of Chantix. Smoked for the first 2 weeks on the drug' date=' then stopped. I only get a mild urge to smoke when I drink, but I've cut back on the drinking too so win/win.

Some people hate the crazy dreams but I loved them.[/quote']

That's how I quit. I had really vivid dreams and would see things when I was half asleep. It was strange and funny at the same time.

How many weeks prior to surgery do you need to be smoke free for surgery? I quit in jan and fell off the wagon on the 26th. Feb was on and off. March is a blur lol well I've been on and off. My surgery is on June 4th. Should I quit now? Or enjoy my last weekend lol

I quit in February. My doctor sacred me with a nicotine test haha. He for real tested me too. My surgery is may 23rd. Super nervous and excited!

The anesthesiologist required last cig 12 hours before surgery. I had decided during my 2 week liquid diet that I was going to quit smoking after surgery. Figured if I could do that liquid diet, I could do anything!! :).

Knew I would be looped up on meds post-op, so that would help get through the physical withdrawals. Slept most of day 2 & haven't had one since 5:34 pm the day before my sleeve.

Can honestly say I have only had one "I NEED a cigarette moment" and went for a walk instead of smoking.

I've never been a smoker, but I feel like I remember my surgeon requiring patients to be smoke free for 6 months before they would do the surgery. They said if you feel like you cannot/do not want to quit smoking, you need to re-think VSG. I guess it depends on how strong a stance your surgeon want to take...

The bottom line is, if you're going to quit, make up your mind to quit. Do not resolve your self to stop nicotine and start a new drug,(patches, smokeless, gum). A vice is a vice is a vice. You've already chose to be a "Loser", so now, be a "quitter" also. It would be a shame to get to your goal, only to find out that the "smoking" diseases are kicking in....

I met with my surgeon in November and he told me that he would not opperate until I quit smoking (I had only been smoking for 3 years), and I switched to.an electronic cigarette. I was put on welbutrin, and let it build up in my system while I tapered off. Although it was important for me to to have the last cigarette ritual. Between quitting and now, i have had 2 random urine tests. I have been nicotine-free for almost 6 months. I still have a lot of cravings but I am.so glad I quit, because getting sleeved means more to.me than smoking does. And just think of all that extra money you'll have for new clothes!! :)

Let's see, my surgery was June 13. I quit smoking, after 37 yrs, alcohol & coffee on June 1. No cravings noted for any of them.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
