What is going on!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded 7/05/06 and really have had problems ever since. The first three weeks I followed the diet plan to a tee. During the fourth week I ate something that didn't agree or something I still really don' t know what I did. Anyway, I started hurting up high and in the middle of my stomach when I would eat. Also when I would feel like I had to burp but not really I would swallow and it hurts really bad. I am not throwing up and do not have fever. My doctor thinks I am having acid reflux and maybe eating to fast and too big of bites. I am taking malox, pepcid, tum's, prolisec and etc. I get to feeling better for a couple of days and then I will start hurting again for some reason. Maybe it is just still early for me and this is the begining stages of this journey. Does anybody have any advise on this.

It's hard to say for sure, but I will bet you a nickel that you are slipping back into your old eating mechanic habits...so, get out that small plate, find some little forks/spoons (like children use, or cocktail forks), cut the food in tiny bites, chew it really well, put your utensils down between bites.

See if this feeling goes away.

Also, when you feel satisfied, not full, stop eating. You can always eat again later.

You are probably eating too much, too fast. The only way to find out is to make really, really sure you are controlling the way you eat.

It's hard, but you can do it!

I think it's time you called your surgeon and had a barium swallow and/or an endoscopy to see what exactly is going on. Call and let him/her know the antacids, etc., are not working and demand to be seen.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
