Did I Slip?

Recommended Posts

I'm a little concerned because on Friday I began to feel some discomfort on my right side. I was banded on 7/11, with no complications. The pain is uncomfortable when I move around or turn in a certain direction, but by no means excurciating. The area does not feel warm nor do I have any fever. I have not had a fill yet, and can eat just about anything. I sometimes get stuck, but it quickly passes. I'm concerned about slippage, is this a possibility? Any replies would be appreciated.

Gracie...have you thrown up hard, not followed your docs post-op diet..anything to make you think it would of slipped? If not...then I can bet it's still a bubble of gas. Took me almost 8 weeks to feel totally up to par again. I was able to work and all but, for me there was dicomfort in the upper left (my left) incision. I asked my surgeon and he said that is the spot they do more of the work for the band, the moving, tunnelling, etc so it's more bruised and is through the muscle. Anyway....ask your surgeon maybe he uses the right side on his patients for the heavy duty surgery work ;) I would think if you slipped, from all I've read, you'd have heartburn, throwing up and food wouldn't go down as easily.

Thanks for responding Sherry. I have not vomited, but I did begin solids about a week before I was told. I know this was wrong, but that was about two weeks ago, why would I get pain now? I notice that the pain is more when I bend forward like to pick something off the ground. It right in the middle of my stomach on the right side. I go to the doctor tomorrow, so I will ask. Thanks again.

Hi Gracie,

What you describes sounds perfectly normal at this stage of the recovery. The port is sewn to the abdominal wall which is a muscle. As healing occurs (and it takes 6-8 weeks), it's natural to feel some discomfort or pulling/twitching. Check with your surgeon just to be sure.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
