Hi everyone :) how are you all? I started my pre op diet on Monday :) doing well so far!! Getting excited that my op is so close! I can't believe its actually here' date=' I've waited over 12months for this and it's finally here!! Woohoo!! Question, can I have lean meat like fish or grilled chicken in my pre op diet? I totally forgot to ask my dietitian, she didn't mention it and the booklet the surgeons office gave me says nothing about it.. I'm assuming the answer is no.. So far I've had Protein Shake (optifast) for Breakfast lunch and dinner. With 1 cup of salad with my lunch shake and 1 cup of vegetable with my dinner shake! If I get hungry after dinner I'll have a little sugar free jelly!! But I'm really craving meat! Thanks for your help in advance guys :)[/quote']Hi Nikki, congrats on starting pre op. Diet advice seems to vary. My surgeon told me I could have a small portion of lean Protein once per day, but my dietician didn't mention it. I only had it about 3 times during the two weeks when I felt I needed it and it didn't seem to have an adverse effect. I was also allowed to have berries as the only fruit and blended in ice with Optifast made it more palatable. Sugar free lollies are also handy during this phase.

Hi Niki good luck on your journey, it is so exciting, I had my op just over three weeks ago. You should probably check with your dietician or the doctors surgery, I was allowed lean meat and veg the first week and then only veg the second along with the Optifast, I wasn't able to have fruit at all. Take care.

I was on the same pre-op diet as you - I think I could have a cup of strawberries if I got really hungry. Try the Optifast chocolate bars - they are high in Protein and will fill you. The pre-op diet was really hard - Mine was only 700 cals a day and I did it for nearly 4 weeks. After the op you are not as hungry and the challenge is getting the food in ! Good luck and in a years time this will be a distant memory.

Hey Nikki!! Congrats on getting close to ur op date.

With the pre op mine was Optifast breakfast and lunch and then dinner was very lean Protein and allowed veg every night. My pre op was for 2 weeks.

I would just ring ur doctor or dietition and ask them as every doctor is different with what their pre op is.

Good luck with it all

Bec

Looking good Lissa!

We are back home! It was a bit of a stressful morning as my husband woke up vomiting at 4:30 am. He had some leftovers for lunch that I warned him against and he paid the price, poor thing. So I packed everything f up this morning and I unpacked everything when we got home so he could rest. We are back to work tomorrow after our glorious holiday! Thankfully the only incident was that one at the end.

I finally had the follow-up with the gastro Doctor about the endoscopy and colonoscopy I had before my holiday to try to see why I have had diarrhea for 5+ months. I don't have celiac disease. I'm not lactose intolerant. I don't have anything physically wrong with my stomach or guts except I still have evidence of reflux so I probably need to take nexium forever.

So we are going with the hypothesis that my digestion is happening too quickly and releasing bile directly into my intestines. This is called bile acid diarrhea and is not too unusual. The doctor put me on something called Questran, which is a cholesterol lowering drug. It binds to excess bile and makes it "neutral" somehow. That's how it lowers cholesterol. I don't have high cholesterol but apparently it will still absorb the bile and might give me some relief. It is a sachet I have to dissolve in half a cup of Water so I am nervous it will be gross, but if I can get some relief I will put up with it! We will give it 6 weeks and see how I go. At least it's cheap! $36 for two months worth.

Good luck Misty. My relative had bile burning his gut after bowel surgery. The Questran gave instant relief but it took weeks for his bowel to fully recover.I hope you have the same good results.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
