What is wrong with this?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have been banded since the 1st. I did fantasticly on the pre-op and even the first week or two after. NOW I am getting stressed. I am gaining back the weight lost. Is this normal to gain before a fill?

I am following the diet to the letter. I even stop eating while still hungry, I am exercising as well....What do I need to do to get back on the weight loss train?

Has anyone else had this happen. Maybe I am crazy for thinking gaining 4 pounds in a week is bad, who knows!

Thanks in advance!

I have heard this from others, that during the 6 weeks between surgery and your first fill that you can easily gain weight. Some people refer to it as "bandster hell weeks". It is pretty normal. This stage is for healing, not for weight loss. (says me, who just got banded last week, and have not really been losing weight since).

The first 6 weeks are for healing. Let your body adapt to having a foreign object inside of it.

You may also gain when you start mushies and/or solids. Just be patient.

This is a tool not a miracle. You will plateau. You will not have a loss every day or even every week. I went months without a loss and then lost 20 pounds in a month. People tend to average 1-2 pounds loss per week.

You did not gain all of your weight overnight and should not expect to lose it overnight. When you lose slowly, you get a chance to get used to the new you, let your skin catch up, and let your body adjust naturally.

Sorry if I sound like I am lecturing. I'm just guessing from your question and am trying to answer the questions you will have in the next couple of months.

You should be fine once your body recovers and gets back to normal. This stage of the game is pretty fickle so don't get discouraged. You sound like you're doing things right and it will pay off soon!

Thanks guys for your support. I am feeling much better today. I lost those 4 pounds that found there way to me plus 2. I think maybe the extra workout did it!

I keep forgetting that it is still so soon after surgery. I should tell my family to quit asking me everyday what I have lost, I think it just adds to the pressure!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
