Don't know if this is the proper forum or not, but just wanted to share something. If you haven't seen the movie "Supersize Me", I would highly recommend it. It's one man's journey eating nothing but McDonald's for 30 days. His health totally tanks! Not only that, there are conversations with Doctor's, Nutritionist's, etc., discussing the overall effect of fast food. What really struck me was the addictive nature of unhealthy food. It's amazing. Pretty much from the very beginning he became addicted. He would be feeling sick, tired, depressed, and then eat something from McDonald's and suddenly he was feeling great. Amazing. I never really thought about what all that junk was doing to me.

I saw that movie - it was bad for sure. BUT.......I start my pre surgery diet on Monday and was racing around for work today and bought ..........McMaggots for lunch - didn't taste very good at all - but that will definitely be the last of that for a while. I felt revolting about 2 hours after.....live and learn!!

The only fast food I've had since my surgery (6 weeks ago), is some refried Beans from Taco Bueno. That was for my pureed/mushy phase. I was so sick of the shakes, drinks, applesauce, etc. I have no plans on going anywhere near a McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, etc., for quite a long while.

Since my surgery, I've succumbed to fast food on occasion. I was never a huge fast food person before, since I don't like fried food or fatty meats, but I'm even less tolerant of fast food now. Just like 2 weeks ago, I caved in and bought a cheeseburger at the hospital caf - everybody I worked with raved about how great they are. I took one bite, and thought "this is pretty disgusting." I took another bite, and was so grossed out by the fatty meat, greasy sauce, and weird, melty cheese (I haven't had processed cheese for YEARS), that I spat it out right in the garbage and threw the rest of the burger in there.

SO GROSS!

Then my coworker found out and freaked, he was like, "WHY DIDN'T YOU LEAVE THAT FOR ME?!" LOL.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
