Did Any One Else Have Back Pain Caused By Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm a week and a half post-op and am doing pretty well pain wise now, but going through surgery gave me one hell of a back pain. The muscles on the left side of my spine were totally knotted up, and the skin over them was numb. This was really the only "pain" I had from surgery. Someone has told me that there is a device they could have used during surgery that would have elevated my knees. Anyone else experience this?

I had horrible back pain for about a full 3 weeks. I did have days here and there that I was ok. As soon as I could take a bath I was taking one a day plus my long hot showers. I would try to stretch my back out as much as I could with the hot shower Water running on it. My husband was great during this time I had him running my back as much as possible.

Hi I think i know what you're referring to.

I conclude it's because I sit/lay down too much, and always at the same position since I'm afraid to move.

Occasionally, i'll go onto the massage chair, and try to move as much as I possibly can, like standing while watching TV etc. It's a lot better now that I can sleep on my sides... BUt I still feel it every time i lay on my back..

Are we talking about the same pain here?

Lol!!

I had back pain for about a month. I couldn't figure it out, but I wonder if I was overcompensating with my back by not using my abdominal muscles. Not sure, but one day it went away.

I am so glad you wrote this. I am two weeks out and I have been very sore in my back. I didn't even think about the lack of use of the abdomen muscles. Thanks!

The REAL before and after for all of us...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
