How To Finally Pick A Doctor-Kelly, Ponce De Leon, Almanza

Recommended Posts

For me? I had about four I was checking out. After looking at his credentials and reading others who had been to him and were extremely satisfied and speaking with him. There has been a lot of bad mouthing him by previous coordinators and people who knew the coordinators. But that's not who's doing the surgery...the doctor is! I've had information sent to me about hospitals he won't/can't work in and one of them he won't work in because he was seeing high infection rates, so HE refused to go to that hospital. Another hospital won't let him..because since he changed where he does the procedure, they aren't making money from him so they are angry. I have been you tubing people who went to him too. Even the lady I happened to literally run into in person who has been a member of this forum for a couple years said she's never heard or read anyone disappointed with him. So I'm very comfortable. The price does help!

Pam, for me it was my interaction with him and his team. It was never high pressure sales, it felt honest. Dr Ponce is good but does not speak English and since I don't speak Spanish, that was not for me. Dr Aceves was not available when I have time off, and I didn't want to fly to see Dr Alvarez. So it came down to Dr K and once I started having regular communications with them (I email them several times a week) I realized it was the best choice for me.

Hi Crystal how did your surgery go? I was just reviewing options with my daughter who has a friend who might be considering, so wanted to check in with you and find out how your surgery went and how your journey is going.

Take care

sandyd, surgery went great, no pain, no drain! After the first 24 hrs I felt good. I've lost 15.2 lbs since surgery and 40.2 lbs inc the preop diet. I had 5 incisions which are healing well. I have an unfinished blog here for more details: losethisbelly.blogspot.com .

I also am having a time deciding which surgeon. I wanted to stay here and if not then I will see either Dr. Kelly, Dr. Aceves, or dr. Ponce de leon. Congrats! on your decision and Good luck.

Pam, your wish is granted!

Phoenix, I used lendingclub.com . With my interest rate, my payments are $202/mo for 3 years.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
