Is It Bad That I'm Not Taking My Prilosec?

Recommended Posts

I really haven't felt I've needed it even though my doc said to take it daily. I haven't had any acid, heartburn or reflux issues. Surprisingly my stomach has been kind to me. This may change however once I'm off liquids.< /p>

For me, I had to go on it after I switched to regular food. No big deal. My doctor said that the sleeve to does not fix reflux.

In my program the require it for 3 months, my understanding is that the acid can inhibit healing of the staple line. I still take it at 8.5 months out because I get a "gnawing" feeling if I don't - I mistook this as hunger for a week before I realized it showed up when I quit my PPI. My Dr has refilled for me.

I understand that "gnawing" feeling! When I don't take mine first thing in the morning, I sure feel it later in the day! Right now, I just buy Omeprazole from Costco.....much cheaper for me that way. If it stops working, I will talk to my dr about a prescription.

I take my omprezale daily because if I don't, I start feeling hungry! So it's no big deal to take my PPI. It's more of a safety precaution. It's really no big deal to add it to my supplements. ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
