Just curious as to how many folks on here had their sleeve done as their first surgery? Seems like I read a LOT of people getting revisions to a sleeve from a band. I am going to get a sleeve, but have never had WLS before now (never had a band, or any kind of surgery). Who else is in my boat?

Thanks!

Laura

You have a date yet? I started wanting the lab band but after doing some research and reading everything I've read decided to get sleeved. My surgery is on May 1st

Sleeve was my first WLS. I thought about the band and did a lot of research and realized I needed to go the way I did. Best thing I have ever done for myself. Went from 327 to 155 in 16 months. Hope you do well with your decision.

No I don't. I have a cardiac condition, and my surgeon wants a clean bill of health for me before doing surgery. So on Monday I am scheduled for a nuclear stress test and an echocardiogram with my cardiologist. My husband is also interviewing for a new job on Thursday. If he gets a job offer that he accepts - that means we will move out this city. So we would have to put my surgery on hold since I am a self pay. And we don't want to use up our savings right before a move. I would come back to HOuston to get my surgery done regardless if we moved or not - it would just push my date back 6 months or so. Otherwise, I will be getting sleeves as soon as possible after I get cleared from my cardiologist.

I was going to also do the band until I did a lot of research and saw so many band revisions to sleeves. If I'm going to go under, I'd rather do it just once. VSG seems easier with less complications. I'm really glad I didn't get the band.

You don't live very far from me!

About 45 minutes from downtown Houston.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
