B-12 Injections

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that after surgery your body will need b-12 suppliments/injections for the rest of its life! Has anyone experienced this or have any info in this topic?

Yea this is true. You can also use b-12 sublingual pills instead of the shot . My surgeon told me it was my choice which one. I was sleeved 3/26/12 and when I went for my last check up 3/24/12 he gave me my first shot. I just thought it was easier than adding another Vitamin to take this time.

I love the shot! It's so much easier. The doc gave me an RX and the hubs gives it to me once a month. Much easier than trying to remember another Vitamin every day.

Thanks for the info guys but it just mind boggles me to think by having this surgery my body wont get enough Vitamins (b-12) from food alone, that seems crazy....

I'm doing the sublingual pill once a day. I just put it in my pill case along with all the others. It really isn't so bad.

I was told by my surgeon that unless we have the bypass surgery and unless our B12 levels are low, we would not need the b12 injections or pills. I am not prescribed anything but a Multivitamin and nexium.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
