Anyone Wanna Do A 7-Day Paleo Challenge With Me?

Recommended Posts

So I'm wrapping up my week today! I did really well yesterday, I had a very busy day on call, a 26-hr shift. When I started, I hardly sat down from 7 AM to 11 PM, then had to get up 3 times at night. I ate some fruit, roast chicken/veggies, and leftover burrito bowl sans beans/rice, as well as some trail mix. Today I've had some yogurt, an omelet with chicken sausage and various veggies, fruit, almonds, beef Jerky, and a latte, and then I treated myself to a cheat meal of pork and cheese pupusas (they are made from corn flour, which is verboten). Then we're going for oysters later, so that'll be diet-approved.

I've lost 2-2.5 lbs this week - my scale is not electronic, so I can't be too precise - and am pleased to say that I've had NO bread at all, no rice, no legumes of any sort, and my only real cheats were that marzipan (the only stuff I've had with sugar all week!), sambucca, and then the corn in the pupusas today. Save for that drunken craving for marzipan, I've had ZERO trouble staying away from sugar this week. Going without bread or Beans is also quite easy, craving-wise. It does complicate eating out a bit, but so far I've found that every restaurant has something that tastes decent and will satisfy me without me veering from the eating plan. If everything fails, there is always the option of chicken wings (not breaded) or a burger without the bun.

I'm planning to stick to eating this way, with a cheat meal or two per week, much like I did this week. I'll keep you posted on how it's going, although now on a less regular basis.

Hey team, still sticking to the plan about 90%. Had some semi-sweet fudge from Rocky Mtn chocolate Factory today; Wednesday, I had a few bites of a dark chocolate pistachio tart, and Monday, I had a few squares of dark chocolate. Still finding it easy to be grain/legume/processed food-free, and there's been no other sugar in my diet except the aforementioned treats.

Went and bought some cool stuff, like duck eggs and quail eggs, frozen oyster meat, escargot, etc - keeps things exciting.

I am so glad I found this thread! I am pre-surgery, but I eat mostly paleo due to my celiac disease. My splurge is kifir and some gluten free goodies. I have lost weight, but I feel I need to go through this procedure to finally kick this thing. All of the Primal Blueprint books are amazing, another awesome cookbook is Make it Paleo. Blackberryjuice- are you Crossfitting? You look amazing. I hope to start Crossfit when I loose 50 lbs.

Hey, thanks! And yes, I'm Crossfitting, been for about 9 months now. It's definitely a tough program if you are very heavy, but even so, we have some folks at my gym who are 50+ lbs overweight, and they are still able to do 90% of the stuff and modify the rest (mostly things like pull-ups that are extra-tough if you are obese). On the upside, those of us who used to be fat are usually pretty strong, haha.

I've followed the diet about 95% this week, I had 3 squares of Ritter Sport chocolate on Monday. I also had some 86% dark chocolate, but considering the nutritional value, I don't really think it qualifies as a cheat. I'm down 5 lbs in 3 weeks, which is crazy considering I'm not eating fewer calories than I did before this - I'm still in the 1800-2300 range.

I just splurged on a large freezer from Kijiji so I could buy meat in bulk for less....excited! I threw out a lot of my grain-based groceries because now that I've been at it for 3 weeks, I don't think I'll be going back to my old eating habits any time soon. I'm just keeping a few things in case I have a friend over or something, and that's it.

I knew it! I can't do Crossfit until I loose at least 50 lbs, as I have had multiple leg surgeries over the years. The last 2 were from doing sports that I did when I was thin and certainly should not have been doing at my current weight. I hope to be doing Crossfit by the first of the year if all goes as planned. I love eating paleo, I feel so much better. Better than years of gluten free eating. I am glad to hear that you are able to be so active and eat paleo. I am not much for synthetic anything or chemicals- I am not looking forward to the Protein shakes that you drink post-op. I will of course choke them down, but do you have any suggestions of something I could make that would have the Protein without the artificial stuff?

Well, I haven't tried it yet, BUT I did buy an all-natural Protein Powder from whey Gourmet - who I know makes very good shakes, I have their regular protein powders. http://www.wheygourmet.com/products/wheygourmetnaturelle.php It has a minimal list of ingredients, it's basically just whey isolate, flavor, and stevia for a sweetener - so about as natural as it gets for artificial sweeteners. I haven't tasted it yet, but someone rated it 8/10 on this one website, and given how good their other shakes are, I'm assuming it's above average.

Hey Blackberry - you started this thread over 2 months ago, how's Paleo going now? Sleevemeup - Tara's Whey is an all natural, organic, fair-trade etc. etc. Protein powder. The dark chocolate one is really delicious, it's just like Ghirardelli cocoa powder!

Blackberry, that story of the wierdos and marzipan is great, but also scary! I almost feel like that guy was "casing" you, like him and his gf were lurking for ... something! eep! I'm still crossfitting btw, although between having the flu and going on vacation I haven't been to the gym for more than gentle yoga in .. 4 weeks, cripes! I'm actually afraid to return to crossfit, it will be so painful, but I miss it terribly.

Also, I have a question that may be indelicate so private msg me if it is - how did paleo, and then cheating, affect your um, digestion?? Any issues?

Thank you for the suggestion- There is also Vegasport, which is gluten free too. Kinda gritty, but the taste is great! I will try Tara's!

I came late to the party, but would LOVE to try this. I know raw meat is not required, but my meat is cooked so rare that it may as well be. I like blue/red centers on my steaks.

I think this will work because I lost 1.2 pounds yesterday and all I ate was 8.5 oz. of tri tip and 1 cup of broccoli.

I only worry about doing long hikes without the sugar. Last time I tried that after 7 hours of hiking, I got really cold, got the shakes and had some intense muscle pain.

P.S. The dark chocolate probably helped. I eat 72%, but maybe I should look for a higher cocoa content.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
