Don't Complain about your Government

Recommended Posts

I dunno about that one... I didn't vote for either bush. I am a very peaceful, caring person who always puts the well being of others first. I deserve this government?

Dear Tired Old Man, I have been an observer to this site for quite awhile but you brought me from the bleachers onto the field. First of all this site is meant for lap banders to help support one another, talk about surgery for those looking for a healthier life, and issues they are having. This site is not intended to be used for your racial and communistic remarks. As a proud American born here and raised here I am completely offended that you give yourself the distinction of being an AMERICAN! What started out as a topic you brought up about Fidel Castro’s state of health weeks ago,was turned by you into an opportunity of you to add some communistic point of views to this board and racial points as well. I am also an old man but one whose mind has not gone to the brainwashing of a poisoned, corrupt communist society. I have visited Cuba four times and notice your points are based on hear say you hear from others. Until you touch Cuban soil with your own feet you need to retract from stating comments that offend those who know what life is really like there. Who have lost loved ones who tried to overthrow Castro at the Bay of Pigs when Jfk turned his back and gave Castro the opportunity to take the Cuban island into the horror that it is today. Before Castro took power I visited Vardaero known for tourism, casino’s and Hotels also went to Pinar del rio, Camague, and Havana and saw what life was like before Castro. The markets filled with items for purchase, people with their heads up and striving as we do to build a strong country with character and morals. Most of those that tried to prevent Castro’s power to infiltrate have been locked up in Cuban PRISONS FOR MANY YEARS SOME DIED IN THEIR FOR JUST SPEAKING THEIR MIND. One of our rights is freedom of speech which there in Cuba which has two television stations everything is monitored by the Cuban government. I was even surprised that when I left the hotel and went to Pinar del rio The castro government even controls the electricity there and folks now have to live with it and have about three hours a day of light.. Many have risked their lives coming in home built rafts to pursue a better life and the freedom to live with rights and expression, the same way your and my ancestors came in the late 1800's to early 1900's. Do you honestly think they come here forced? The only ones that came here like that were the ones in the mariel back in 1980 when of course another democratic president named Jimmy Carter opened the gates to cuba to supposedely help those ill and what castro did was clear out his jail of the low element of criminals he had there. I have traveled the world over to the poorest areas of Calcutta to the most elegant areas of England and have never seen anything as what Castro has done to the Cuban people. As an American I would hope that you go to Venezuela and shine Hugo Chavez shoes or go to Cuba and change Fidel Castro’s and help change his bed pan and leave this country which is so degregating to you. Please also stop writing your political views on this site while others are here to talk about more important issues like living and understanding the band. I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t have anything to do with maybe harboring one of the terrorist from 9/11. You need not to answer just Leave the site and leave this country you racial cruel tired old man.

Ummmmm... Yikes!

I found the video amusing myself. Just shows how we educate ourselves in things that aren't that important I guess. I know personally I couldn't name any of the Justices. I can tell you who the 7 dwarfs are though.

Thanks for the laugh tired old man. I'll try and educate myself a little more.

Btw... I don't think you harbored any terrorists from 9/11. That statement in itself is pretty overboard.

I personally wasn't offended, I was just questioning the the very broad statement. Since you used the word "you", the question is directed at who ever reads it. I was curious as to why you thought I/we deserved it.

This area of the board is for discussion of any and all topics for whomever may be interested in partaking. Bill, while you are of course welcome to comment on other posters' material, please keep away from making personal comments. This thread will have to be locked if we can't keep it from getting insulting.

Thanks.

I just put an antiamerican in his place. With all the terroism and hate in this world we don't need an individual like him to be here with his comments. this board is meant for lap band, there are places on myspace he can go to

Sounds to me like some who think I am unAmerican are trying to limit my First Amendments rights. Now I ask, "Is that being American or unAmerican?"

I have been called names for stating my opinion.

I have been accused of harboring terrorists.

My father was killed in WWll in Berlin while fighting for the USA against Germany.

My daughter-in-law was standing next to the South when it was hit and suffered both physical and physiological damage. I wiped that gray soot and tears from her face after she ran from the falling South Tower and held on for her life as she walked across the Brooklyn Bridge as the North Tower came down and then walked the 8 miles to our home.

My son worked on the elevators of the World Trade Center as a member of Local 3 of the IBEW.

I was an aircraft mechanic that worked for the airline which hit one of the towers and the Pentagon.

I lost my job because of 911.

I am an American and I have a right to speak. But I do not have a right to call people names and I don't. Report me to the FBI if you think I am a subversive.

Let's see, "I know of this guy who exercises his constitutional rights of free speech." That will definitely get me investigated and arrested.

Where is Joseph McCarthy when you need him?

I used the word "you" in it's most general sense. Do "you" think that if I change the name of the thread to "People get the Government they Deserve" and then make the linked phrase read "People get what they deserve", anyone will be happier or people will know any more about their government?

It was a joke.

This is posted in the lounge, so the topic is fine.

I like politics.

Sometimes, though, the "juice ain't worth the squeeze" (that's a little East Texas slang).

For the "record" ( as if anyone is keeping one) I used to be left, now I am right (pun intended), and find it easier to avoid these topics on LBT...if they bother you, you might try taking a deep breath, and moving on. It helps with the sanity portion of your journey.

See ya on another thread.

I like your sense of humor.

I used to be right, now I am correct.

A country is like a bird or an airplane. They each need a right-wing and a left-wing to fly. If either wing is too big, there must be a major correction by the rudder or elevators, or the plane or bird will crash.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
