How/Why can a fill take a week or more?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand how a fill may not be felt for a week or more? I had a fill 8 days ago and I don't feel a difference. Actually, I feel as though I require more food to reach the same level of fullness as I had before the fill. Obviously this isn't my sweet spot, but I don't understand how, physically, the level of restriction can increase over time. Can anyone explain?

Thanks, LynnAnn

cant explain , but understand and know how you feel, I had my second fill 10 weeks ago and for 2 weeks after I felt no diffrent , so I called my doc to make an appointment and within 24 hours I had restriction and have for 10 weeks. hang in there, and if it helps make a placebo DR appointment

Vegas - glad to hear your fill was successful! Yesterday I got my third fill, two weeks after the second fill, and still don't seem to have much restriction...so maybe I'll be back for a fourth fill in a couple of weeks...

LynnAnn - my doc yesterday, during my third fill, said that sometimes it can take a day or two to feel the complete restriction, but it was just a guess as to why - whether it's swelling of the stomach, or some other reason, they don't know. But a full week before you feel restriction after a fill? I've haven't heard that before.

Still waiting for the "sweet spot" myself...

I have a 4cc band. My doctor only put in 1cc because he was pretty happy with the amount of restriction I already had. During the first 24hrs I had protien shakes and Soup as directed. I'm not trying to eat as much as I possibly can, but the quantity is noticeably more than it was before the fill.

Thanks, LynnAnn

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
