Follow-Up After Sleeve In Mexico

Recommended Posts

My sleeve date is May 23rd with Dr. Rodriguez in Juarez. My PCP is unfamiliar with the procedure and told me he would follow me if I would get him info about what to monitor. I'm nervous that he won't know the symptoms of a leak, etc. And he's two hours from me. Would I be smarter to find a PCP closer to home? Would a local Bariatric doctor follow me if I had the procedure in Mexico? I don't have a NUT - do I need to find one? Thanks for your suggestions! So happy I found this group!

I would definitely try to find a pcp closer to home or that knows a little bit about the procedure. I would also see if there is Bariatric surgeon that will be willing to check things out of there is a suspected problem.

My pcp knows about the surgery and since I have Kaiser there are specialist there as well that are well versed on the procedure, however, my primary has already told me that if i get the surgery after Kaiser has already denied me (and they denied me twice) than any complications that may arise will not be covered. OK... thats fine...but who says they have to know I have it :D. I also have another dr within the same group that is not as strict on guidelines and is willing to take me on as a patient. I will just have to change over to him before going back into Kaiser for my follow up blood work

I hope that you are able to find a pcp that is closer!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
