Allow Me To Introduce Myself

New to this forum. My first visit with my doctor is tomorrow and I am SUPER pumped about starting this journey. Do you guys have any suggestions for questions that I need to ask my doctor? Overall, hi, and I'm looking to gain great friends on this journey.

Welcome!!!!

There are a lot of great, supportive folks on this forum. You can ask just about anything and for the most part get compassionate answers.

If there is something you are worrying about, that would be what to bring up to doc. Are you settled on the sleeve or is he talking about the Roux N Y as well? My doc tried to lean me toward the Roux N Y but I opted for the sleeve which he was good with.

The only dumb question is the one you didn't ask. :)

Good info. Thanks. I want the sleeve and am not even considering any other options. I will let you guys know how it goes after my first visit.

Make a list of things you would like too know.

How long has the surgeon been doing these procedures.

what kind of diet do they require.

Limitations?

What size Bouchee are they using? (guide to stapleline)

Do they glue, staple, sew stomach shut?

These are some questions and maybe others have some suggestions also. Good luck and you will do fine! ;)

Welcome! :D

I didn't ask a lot of questions on my first visit. It was more focused on my pre op testing. I told them which surgery I wanted, we discussed my health history, I met with the nutritionist, scheduled my pre op testing and psych visit, etc. I was provided with a lot of information that was relevant to all WLS. I had a long list of questions at my final pre op appt. But I would ask some things about the surgeon's experience with the sleeve, what will the pre and/or post op diet look like, what will the hospital stay be like, surgeon's complication rates, how long will you need to be off work.

Please keep us posted on your journey. I'll save a spot for you on the loser's bench. ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
