Fever

Ok it has been 10 days since my surgery. Saturday and Sunday I noticed I was running a slight fever. Not very high but still a fever. Has anyone had this problem? I know I should go to the doctor but I am sure since it is holiday there is no way they are in. The fever is real low so I am not real concerned, but something must be going on. I feel pretty good during the day but at night it seems to come back.

Anyone out there have a slight fever following surgery?

Any advise?

Kathy, as you know a fever is a sign of your body working harder to fend off or fight illness. A low-grade fever can just be an indicator that your body's white cells are doing their job and helping you heal. If you feel OK otherwise and don't have any pain, it's not necessarily an indicator of any problem.

But it's good that you noticed and can keep an eye on it. Try resting a little more--you might just be overdoing it a bit sooner than your body really wants.

Thanks so much ALex my hubby was getting real concerned. I called my primary care Doc. but they are not in. The advise nurse pretty much said the same thing you did.

I knew that I could come here for good advise.

I will keep a eye on it. But for now I don't think I have enough syptoms to be real concerned.

Like I said during the day I feel pretty good. A little gas pains here and there. But everything looks good, my incisions are healing good. I am drinking my Protein and my Water. Cream Soups are going down good too.

Again thanks so much, I will let him read your post and I am sure he will feel better now.

Hi Kathy I had a slight fever 5 days after my surgery. I called my surgeon and told him about it, it was low grade 99.8 but still a fever. He told me to drink alot of fliuds and if it did not go away in 48 hours to come see him. It went away.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
