Duodenal Switch-Anyone In Mx Do This?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved in Mexico in November. Since then I lost 11lbs on the liquid diet post surgery. Since then I am up 3 lbs and havent lost any weight. It is very frustrating. I know I can walk more as I only walk 2 miles 2days/week. I have worked with the nutritionist at the surgeons office and she feels I am eating fine and actually wanted me to add more food.< /p>

I have tried eating more and then going back to a strict diet but that hasnt worked either. The surgeon wants to prescribe Metformin to see if that makes any difference, but from what I have read it doesnt really make a difference.

I am considering getting a duodenam switch, which the sleeve is the first part of the surgery.

Does anyone know a doc in MX that does this surgery? I have a call into my doc's office to see if he will convert, but want to see if anyone else does it too.

Dr. Ungson does the DS in Mexico and in my opinion is the only surgeon to consider. Check on the DS board at Obesity Help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
