Starting Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I'm starting my pre-op diet on Monday and I'm a little nervous, but much more excited. I don't have a date yet, but my doc told me to go ahead and start because my insurance is pretty quick with their decisions. I'm determined to stick to it, because I figure if I can't stick to this for two weeks, I don't need to have the surgery. Wish me luck everyone because I'm going to need all of the positve energy I can get.

Good luck! You can do it, the first three days are the hardest. I was on a liquid diet so i did a EAS Advantage carb control shake for Breakfast and lunch (sometimes a third if I was starving waiting for dinner which was a palm sized meal with meat ad veggies). I ate sugar free Jello in between as a snack if needed and drank lots of Water with crystal light. sugar free gum helped, I got the Extra mint chocolate chip that would curb my cravings.

I had surgery on the 10th and my liver shrank a significant size (I was a big girl at 399 down to 384 for surgery) so my surgeon was pleased. I was worried they'd cancel my surgery cause my liver was too big if I cheated too much or have up on the diet.

You're going to do great! Before you know it you'll be approved with a date and on your way to a new you :)

Are you saying your entire meal was palm size? Or the meat was palm size.

For me the meat was supposed to be palm sized and veggies. The meal was suppose to be "light" but I always had slices of turkey with salad and I'd only end up eating half of it. I guess the key was it to be "light" lol.

I had Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch. SF Jello & SF Popsicle for Snacks. Tomato/chicken bullion usually around 4pm if I got hungry before dinner time. I had a small meal in the evening too, 3 oz of Protein and vegetables - I made salads several nights with Canadian bacon chopped up, some avocado, carrots, tomatoes, etc. They were great and 3 oz of Canadian bacon is quite a bit of meat so I was not missing anything. They filled me up and I lost 13 lbs on mine and my liver was fabulous according to my surgeon.

Thanks for the tips to those that posted about what to eat for pre-op. I start my pre-op 2 week diet on April 27th & was wondering what I should be eating.

My pre-op diet is three Protein Shakes, 2 Protein Bars, and one meal of 5oz of meat with 2 cups of veggies. They told me I can use any type of Protein Shake, so I picked up some Slim Fast since I know I can tolerate those. I'm really glad I don't have to go all liquid. I'm pretty excited to start.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
