CONFUSED!! Hungry-Constipated-and able to EAT MUCH!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded 8 days ago. I'm so confused. I've never been so constipated in my life. Not even after my c-sections. No one mentioned that this may happen. Should I drink some prune juice? It's PAINFUL.

Also, I'm just starting on Soup broth and smooth yogurt. That's been nice. But I can certainly put away quite a bit. Even with my Water and crystal lite, I can drink much at a time. I remember reading that I would only be able to drink 2oz or so at a time. I thought that this would not be the case??? I'm so confused.

I can already feel the weight coming off, so these complaints are MINOR in my mind.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

THANKS MUCH

Regarding restriction: From what I have read everyone is the same. After the swelling you can eat... and will be able to eat until a good fill. So don't panic. After a good fill you will be restricted. Enjoy the mushies while you can.

As for the poo issue... there is a yogurt out there called Activia that helps regulate things. I use Super Colon Cleanse powder. Others have mentioned using Milk Of Magnesia (MOM). Prune juice may be a good idea too.

Good luck. You will be fine!

Anything fuild will pass straight through the pouch. The band was only designed to restrict solid food. So till you are on mushies / solids you might find yourself a bit hungry.

And YES! Drink some prune juice! I am 18 months out, and I still have a glass daily. It is my magic friend.

LOL...you sound just like me at 1 week post-op! Don't worry...the Constipation is normal.

I did a one-two punch to help with this: I combined prune juice (down the hatch) with glycerine suppositories (up the shoot). It worked miracles.

Plus, as you start eating regular foods, things will losen up a lot more. If you're still on painkillers, that might also be stopping things up...I was on Vicodin for a week and it just wrings you dry.

Drinking liquids shouldn't be restricted due to the band. When you are first banded, you are often swollen and sometimes feel the "gurgle, gurgle" of liquids going down. Once the swelling goes down, you should be able to drink all you want (hopefully non-calorie drinks).

Once you get filled and restriced, you'll feel the difference when you eat solids.

Take care. Shawn

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
