Getting Sleeved Soon And Scared To Pieces

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery on 4/17 and I'm getting freaked out. All through this process I was really excited about having the surgery, and was ecstatic when I got approved. But as soon as I did the final blood test for the surgery, I'm like 'omg this is real'. It probably doesn't help to keep watching the actual procedure done on youtube. Did any of you feel this way? I've never had surgery before or anesthesia for that matter. To make matters worse, my mom is freaking out and being very negative (thank God my husband a good support). What was it like being in the operating room and the anesthesia? I'm trying to be positive, but I'm getting really scared...I definitely want this surgery! and will gladly drag myself in that operating room shaking and crying from nerves if I have to. Any encourage welcomed

Joyous, Everyone has some worries just before surgery. It's perfectly normal. Hopefully you have researched your surgeon and hospital and you feel comfortable with them. Once that's done, then you just have to put the rest in God's hands and pray. As far as what it's like, you will probably have to show up fairly early in the day for prep. Most of us end up with compression stockings and inflating pillows for our legs to prevent clots, an IV is started and we have to wear a hospital gown. Once you're prepped, they wheel you into the OR and you're placed on the operating table, then given a breathable anesthetic. Count backwards for a second and then you're waking up in recovery. So, basically, you go to sleep and the next thing you know you're waking up and it's all over.

IMO, it's more nerve-wracking for the family because they get to sit in a waiting room and not know what is going on until hospital staff comes to tell them you're okay. So, you get the "easy" part of this one! :)

Don't let the nerves get to you. It will be over soon and you'll be on the loser's bench with me! :)

Joyous, everything that Lissa stated is exactly what I experienced on Monday. I was nervous that morning, but it really wasn't bad. I had more post surgical pain after my sinus surgery last Jan. than I did from this. I'm very sore but feeling pretty good otherwise. Trying to walk the last of the gas bubbles out today.

Good luck to you!

Thanks so much for the encouragement...I really needed it. I'm feeling a lot better about it today. It also helps knowing that so many people have had this surgery with few complications, and my doctor reassured me that he has done well over a hundred of these surgeries and the chance of dying from it is less than 1%. So, all I'm going to do now is pray....and stick to my pre op diet :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
