Recommended Posts

My surgery isn't until may 17th but I was wondering how I will do food wise after returning to work 1 week post op! Any ideas on how to prepare my meals or what I will need for the first month?

So for the first two weeks I will just need Water, clear Soups, apple juice, crystal light, etc? What I was wondering was the second stage... What did most of you take to work for Breakfast, lunch. And Snacks?

Don't stock up on anything prior to surgery. What tastes good today may well not be appetizing to you after surgery. I know, I didn't follow my own advice and now have a pantry full of stuff that I will probably never eat! After surgery is pretty easy so I'd wait and see what sounds good and then just buy as you go. I'm in the pureed/mushy stage right now after having been on full liquids for the first week post op. I've found that Campbell's Soups have a great variety of creamed and other soups that tase really good right now and they're easy to fix. You can adjust thinning them to match your requirements and I've even added potato flakes a couple of times to give them more substance. As little as you'll be eating just a few things will go a long way. Best of luck!

During my full liquid stage I absolutely lived off of two dishes. One was a Tomato bisque my mother in law made, with cottage cheese added for extra Protein. The other was ricotta mixed with pizza sauce. Both eaten warm.

Don't forget that sf Jello and sf popsicles are on your liquid diet. Don't stock up on alot, because our taste buds will change, and you might not like something ou loved before! Blended lentil Soup, and cottage cheese were my faves on pureed foods. You should go to full liquids before pureed, and then after pureed! soft foods, but that won't be right away? My doctor skipped full iquids for me and I went right from clear liquids to pureed. You will need to see how you progress before you know when you can move on. However, I wuld get some RTD Protein Drinks and keep them on hand. The best ones RTD are from costco and they are Premier with 30g of Protein per container. Good luck. Just take it day by day and don't worry about planning too far in advance.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
