Know everyone's pain tolerance is different but I was hoping that some people who have been sleeved already could tell me their experiences with the pain that comes with this surgery..I have never had children so I can't even base it off childbirth lol...I go in Monday

There is pain of course, but I thought it was pretty tolerable. It hurts to get up or sit for about 2 weeks but once sitting or standing I didn't have much pain. Everyday the pain was less. I had a button to press in the hospital for pain meds and I used it a lot! That is what it is there for. I took the prescription pain meds for about 3 days after I got home (I was in the hospital for 1 day). Then I used Tylenol off and on for another 2 weeks. It took a good month before I didn't have any more pain when moving and towards the end it was only when I would bend down.

Just keep in mind everyone heals differently and your pain could be more or last longer, but it might not mean anything is wrong.

Have you had any type of surgery before?

My pain was quite severe initially.. I would say for the first 3 days.. Compared to childbirth-I had a section and a spinal and that pain was intense... I had trapped gas for my section too. For the sleeve surgery I wasn't expecting as much pain as I had.. But, the pain was more of an intense burn in my stomach.. I am almost 3 weeks post op and haven't taken any meds in 1 1/2 weeks... My pain is gone, I feel pretty good and I'm getting ready to go back to work (I'm a nurse) on Sunday. Initially--take your meds!! Use ice packs for your stomach and heating pad for your back *this is what my surgeon suggested. I slept with ice packs for the first three nights at home--it was amazing Good luck to you~!!! Jenn

I am 14 months post-op and I was doped to high heaven. The sleeve was my first surgery, too. I don't remember any pain until I came home and tried to sleep on my side--that hurt a bit, but I'm a back sleeper so I just rolled back over very carefully. Getting out of bed was a little painful too. I didn't need painkillers after the 6th post-op night.

I had a terrible stomach burning pain when I came to...but as soon as the morphine kicked in, all was well.

Giving birth was waaaaaaay worse pain wise. Also, I haven't heard of anyone else with the burning pain, just me. But I think it's better to expect the worst. I had not heard of anyone with any pain, so I was not mentally prepared.

The meds in the hospital and home kept my pain away unless I moved. I slept propped with pillows to replicate a hospital bed with the knees and head raised. Also used a nightie and no undies instead of my usual sleep pants.

It was easily tolerable. I believe walking and sipping fluids helped me feel better faster.

I had surgery March 21, 2012, had surgery 1.5 weeks ago. Paini was manageable in the hospital, I had a happy button. The worst pain was Friday coming off the morphine and going home, but I have not had any pAin meds since Wednesday morning. The only time I have pain now is bending over to pick things up and sometimes sleeping since I sleep on my side/stomach.

I woke up with terrible pain, but as soon as they gave me a shot for pain and hooked up the pain pump I had ZERO incision pain. Incisions just hurt as much as a mild bruise. Most of my pain is inside. For the first 4 days, if I didn't take my pain meds, Even water would hurt. After the 4th day, that was mostly better. Once I began solid food, at about 4 weeks, some foods still hurt going down. It is not an unbearable pain, I just don't eat as much of those foods.

I was given liquid Tylenol plus a narcotic..happy button which I used as needed. The pain for me was about a 6 and then it went down to a 2

Dull discomfort in the Ab area.The soreness is kinda like waking up after doing 200 sit ups but the air is where I think the sharp pains came in.it comes and goes. I am home now but have not used any pain meds yet. Movement on the bed is awkward trying to find a sweet spot.

Resting, walking and sipping is my focus right now...do the initial pain does subside.

The gas pains were the worst part for me & I have a very high tolerance for pain... Walk, walk, walk...it really does help the gas come out! When you haveto pass that gas, pass it! Don't hold back. I couldn't sleep on my side for weeks & that was hard, as I am a side & stomach sleeper! I was only on pain meds the first couple of days, I'm 5 months out & I feel great and I'm also down over 70lbs! Good luck!
