6 Days Post-Op, Feeling Fine

Recommended Posts

Had my VSG surgery on 3/22 at Scripps Green hospital in La Jolla. I was up and walking (slowly) within 3 hours of getting to my room. Of course the initial pain was there, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I improved. I was not allowed to drink anything until the noon the next day and after that I struggled to get 3 oz of chicken broth down. Once they removed the catheter (fun) I was able to get out of bed and walk without the nurse. I was released to go home later in the evening, 36 hours after my surgery began. All in all, it was much easier than I anticipated.

I struggled a bit with getting the whole sipping thing down, but like the surgery, each day it has gotten easier. That being said, I'm sure getting tired of broth!

Best of luck to you with your surgery. I went into mine feeling positive and upbeat about my recovery. I'm a firm believer in attitude being a key component of getting through any challenge. If you need added encouragement, its now been 8 days and I'm down 10 lbs from my weight the morning of surgery.

I had the same results, I lost 10lbs within the week after surgery, I didn't like the broth at the hospital at all, my doctor said I could try a lil mashed potatoes and other mashed foods I did that for three days then I stopped mashing I just chewed soft food very well and I had no problems as long as I didn't eat while drinking anything or doing one spoonful to many then I felt like I want to upchuck. Its been 14 days post surgery and I feel Fantastic!

Best of Luck to you Modie!

Thanks for the input Willow216. Good to hear that I'm not the only one who is progressing as quickly as I am. Its been 9 days now and I just started some light soft foods. So far my sleeve seems to like it as long as I chew well and don't overdo. I'm feeling like its time to get back to the gym!

Biggest challenge now is to not jump ahead too quickly to solid foods. I am having huge head hunger issues the last 2 days. I know that keeping on goal and working out will help. Biggest help so far is keeping active on this forum. I can relate to so much to others experiences and challenges.

This last weekend was a killer for me, I was craving carbs like a maniac, I felt like picking at food all weekend. I snuck a piece of chocolate to calm me down, I know that was a no-no but now I know what a dope fiend feels like on a bender!

I need to start excercising my resistance as well as my body! LOL

Just a suggestion, but I made homemade chicken noodle Soup for my family tonight & I just ate the broth & the flavor was a lot more satisfying for me than just store bought broth. I had surgery 4/9/12 & dr won't allow soft foods until 4/17/12. I had to find something different. Considering making vegetable beef & doing same thing for tomorrow.

I was on the 9th too! How are you feeling? I feel great. Just mind pain in shoulder still. Same with me on the soft food. Can start a little next week. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
