I was schedule to have the endoscopy done this Thursday morning at 715 am, I have to be at work by 9. So my question is will I be ok to go to work? Will my throat hurt? Would I be able to eat properly? Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer my question.

You are going to be very groggy still. I had mine at 3:00pm and didn't remember anything before 4:00. After that I was just drugged up for awhile unable to drive and very tired. I lied down and took a nap. Some people complain of throat soreness. I didn't have that and I was able to eat. I don't know what you do for work, but it may be better to go in a little later.

I was so scared too. It is so easy though. After it was over I wondered why i was stressing so much in the first place. The drug they use doesn't put you all the way out, it's just a sedation. I felt like I was having a very relaxed daydream. Over in no time. My husband told me I was really mellow and telling him how good I felt. You will be fine. :)

It's kind of a strange euphoric feeling. You are awake until the very last minute while they are setting up, then they inject the drug in your IV and you feel it right away and just kind of feel very relaxed. I remember kind of thing "oh yeah, I can handle this" lol! You don't remember anything, but I had a sense I was awake, but I was kind of dreaming about gardening of all things, then they were telling me it was all over (felt like only a minute had past) and my memory was a little fuzzy after that in recovery. I remember my husband and the doctor there, but can't tell you exactly what they told me. But I felt "good". By the time I was in the car I remember more and just had a good buzz going on.

The doctor told me in recovery when he came to check on me and I remember most of it, but had to review it with my husband later to be clear about it.

Yes and I would not have even known the difference. He said the biopsy is common practice to test for the H pylori. You won't even feel it during or after.

It is just a bacteria that can cause ulcers. They just want to know what you have going on so they can predict what you will need if any treatment

I sure will. Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.

No problem, I totally understand. I had so much anxiety going into it. I wish i would have posted on here about it first. It's so easy. Good luck and write later and let me know how it went for you. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
