Help! Did I Break Something?

Recommended Posts

When I was sleeved (1/28/12) they also performed a hiatal hernia repair. Following the sleeve I initially had a hard time getting food down, and then keeping it down but.this has improved & I'm not vomiting as often now. That being said, last night I took an oxycodone for back pain & it made me super sick. I hadn't eaten much in the day & this was in the middle of the night so when I threw up it was just yellow stomach bile & it was really forceful & exhausting. Today I woke up with pain in the lower throat/top of chest area...almost feels like a ball is stuck in my lower throat. Anyone know if you can pull a muscle when vomiting or what.this might be?? I'm worried I did something that messed up the hernia repair!!

I threw up for the first 24 hours immediately after my surgery, and my surgeon assured me i didn't hurt anything. The scan the following week confirmed it. I doubt this far out you've done anything to hurt the repair. That said...I have NO idea what that ball feeling could be. Maybe someone has had that sensation around here?

Maybe it's reflux. The acid burn in your throat could make it feel that way.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
