Pain in the Arse Neighbors

Recommended Posts

I am a true country girl, born and raised and lived 30+ years in the woods of central lower Michigan. I moved to SD in 2003, married in 2004 and make my home in a city of about 15,000. For the most part we have decent neighbors. With exception to the Yeah Whos that live across the street. They boom their music, peel out on their motorcycles, burn donuts in the street (they left two back circles), throw fast food wrappers, pop cans and such on the ground to name just a few. I don't want to cause a stink, but I want some resolution to the problem. Should I call the law if this continues, just try to ignore them, or something else? Any advice would be awesome.

Are they renters or do they own the home? If they're renters, you should contact the owners ASAP. If they're the homeowners, do you have a neighborhood association you can talk to?

It's your neighborhood too. Do you want other people like those neighbors moving in and bringing the rest of the neighborhood to their level?

I'd call the police if you don't have a neighborhood association to turn to. Those neighbors won't know who called them. Your home is a HUGE investment and you really don't want bad neighbors bringing it's value down.

We have a fellow up the end of our street who has a towing business, and he was a real problem. He had a huge old noisy tow truck that he'd roar down the street in at 5.30 am, and he really went fast too at all times of day. As we live in a quiet cul de sac and there's always kids out playing in the street, this was a huge problem, it was only a matter of time before he collected someone.

Anyhow somebody must have complained to the council or spoken to him directly because he's now extremely considerate, he idles down the street early in the morning and drives very carefully at other times of the day.

So you never know, people dont always know they're bothering you and may be only too happy to tone it down a bit if you ask nicely.

I would drop a nice note in their mailbox (anonymous if you prefer) pointing out the problems and then wait to see if there's an improvement over the nexts few days. If there is no change, my next action would be to call the police.

I love this idea!

My suggestion was to MOVE.

LOL....."arse"....I haven't heard that expression since my Mom passed away in 86.

I don't think ignoring them is an option that would work....would be very hard to ignore that crap. I'd go straight to the police and let them know that you mean business....would be even better if you could get some support and backing from some of the other neighbours.

I ended up writing a letter to the police dept. and have it in the mail today. It explains in detail everything that I have witnessed first hand since they moved in. Hopefully it does some good. I did point out we live in a school zone and school starts Aug. 21, and I afraid someone will get hurt or killed if this crazy disrepect continues. Thanks for all your input, I will let you know what happens!

I feel for ya, our neighbors on one side got into trouble for chicken fighting and are always sitting on or fence, and their kids are always nakked! AND they park their cars infront of our house ARRRRg!

The other side is this lil old lady who is CRAZY! lol she has done many things to upset us two of the funniest was the kids in the neighborhood one of them made a bike skid mark on the public sidewalk in front of her house and she walked to everyones house demading that they scrubed the sidwalk in front of her house, no one did it a few told her to get lost and a few told her to stick it :huggie: we just laughed @ her...And the other is on the 4th alot of people were doing Fireworks and she went again down the street yelling at people that if her car got burned she was sueing us (All) and then went out at 2am w/ a flash light to inspect her car! Whats funnier is she has lived there 2 years now and that car is parked out in the street being used as storage and is not in good shape AT ALL, in fact when she first moved in she got out of her car and left it in netural it rolled down her driveway and up ours hit OUR truck and knocked out all her tail lights...We let it go................and the car has sat ever since! but yet she is going to sue us if something happens to it! She is crazy! and we just laugh at her now I could tell you some other funny things but I'm getting ready to leave the house lol

I've tried talking to my neighbors, and I've called the police on many occassions. I'm in an apartment that was owned by a 'slum lord' who didn't inform us he was filling the place with tenants to sell it. He never did anything about the neighbors that he agreed to do, and then we got a letter that the building had been sold. The new owners where not aware that there were any problems at all.

As soon as I have the money for a deposit, I'm outta there.

I hope the police do something with your letter. Don't hesitate to call though. There are non-emergency disbatch numbers for stuff like noise complaints, etc.

I have conflicting thoughts on this. We had a neighbor (a renter) who played his stereo loud with the bass turned waaay up. To the point that I could feel it in my chest while I was taking a shower. We honestly couldn't hear our own music or TV. It didn't bother the other neighbors as much because of the placement of the houses. We tried talking to him, but it did no good. Finally, we called the police. They came first to our house, but of course it wasn't playing then. They made a visit to the neighbor to ask him to tone it down. He proceeded to turn it up EVEN MORE!! He told us he was punishing us because we called the police and they weren't going to make him stop. My DH had words with him, and the A**hole said he wouldn't turn it down until I came over and apologized to him in person. Our lives were so miserable that I did it. And he dressed me down for a good 10 minutes. I didn't see any improvement either.

Then they moved away. Whew! Then a year later they MOVED BACK!!!:huggie: Talk about an adrenaline rush when we saw them again.

We finally had no choice but to sell our house and move away. It was so sad.

So, just be careful. It could get worse.

I'd try a nice letter to not offend (it can get worse if they are rebels).

Then, I'd try the police.

Also, maybe get their phone number and call them (anonymous) when they are getting out of hand.

Remember, try to keep cool as these things can escalate quick. They will be defensive.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
