Ruflux since last fill

Recommended Posts

Prior to banding I often had problems with reflux at night. I thought that problem had resolved itself until I recently had my 4th fill...and since have had incredible reflux problems at night. It has happened once everynight since my last fill and I have aspirated one time, maybe twice. I dont eat before bed and even stopped drinking even Water before bed to ensure there was nothing in my pouch when I layed down. It hasnt made a differance. I am not particularly tight....I can almost eat 1 chicken thigh comfortably. I plan to call my doc this morning but wondered if anyone on this site has had similiar problems after a fill. Thanks for any insight.

Hi Joann,

I'm so sorry to hear you're having these problems! Do you feel too tight in general? Or are you eating OK and just suffering from reflux?

Reflux is a strange beast, and clearly something we want to avoid. Maybe a slight unfill will help. I hope your doctor can get to the bottom of this and your problems will be a thing of the past. Please let us know how it goes!

Well, the same thing happened to me, but it was a while after my last fill. They think my pouch has stretched some and I had to get a complete unfill for two weeks. I think I got into this predicament because I was ever so slightly too tight. I have a feeling the remedy for you is going to involve a partial or complete unfill. It's good that you called your doctor. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Nancy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
