The Doctor Called and Made things right

Recommended Posts

My Dr called and apologized for her unprofessional staff and d/w me the failed manometry and going forward. I vented all my frustration on her and she took it and I guess my surgery is back on. I just wanted to know that I can trust my doctor and that she is responsive-am I asking to much?

I am scared but hopeful. Just reassure me that this is a simple procedure and nothing will go wrong..PLEASE

:heh:

Um.. its surgery, and while statistics show that there is a very low % of fatalities because of lapband surgery, there is always a chance that you could be part of that small percentage. There is also a chance that you will encounter complications after surgery. Infections, erosion, slipping.. all are part of the risks taken when we choose to get banded.

The question is.. have you done your research, seriously considered the risks involved, found a Dr that you have confidence in, made a decision that this surgery is for you based on all the facts, and found peace about it? If so, then you walk forward like the rest of us have and take your chances. The good news is, the chances of success are good.. as you can tell by the number of people here on LBT who are finding new lives because of their band.

However, if you answered no to any of those questions, then I'd say you aren't prepared yet. Check out this list of questions to present to your Dr. Knowledge is power and power is comforting. :)

Best wishes!

I agree with PhotoNut. Although I'm glad that you're on good terms with your doctor again, you still seem a little unsure of things in general. It's OK to be nervous about surgery. It is a major deal. I wish you lots of luck and if you have a specific question about the procedure we'll do our best to share our experience.

I have studied this procedure for 2 years. I think what is throwing me is that the doctor I wanted left unexpectedly. My choices were to cancel or accept his replacement and keep my date. She is well qualified but she is less "hands on" that what I expected. I never thought I needed alot of hand holding but when "little things" keep popping up like my manometry nightmare (I couldn't stop retching) and anesthesia (We can't find your paperwork), and radiology (Them asking me "What is a marshmellow swallow?) I was feeling like the cart was driving the horse. The UIC complication rate is 1% (actually 0.8%) I just don;t want to be in that small percentage and so far they have not impressed me. I have talked to others and they all had no problem at UIC but I feel like it is a so impersonal and disorganized. I have heard your guys talk about the importance of follow up care. I have my doubts about this program but this is the only one my insurance will cover. I want this, I just wish they would take some time to do better customer service and instill confidence.

Thanks for listening

natashiki have you been in touch with VinesQueen on this board. She was recently diagnosed with a tumor on her pituitary. She also is banded and might give you some insight into your unique situation.

I can tell you that my surgery went very well. Of course I can't tell you how yours will go, but I was in and out in less than 45 minutes, the part that too the longest was waking up from the anesthesia, and then I was being wheeled into my room to meet up with my boyfriend (now fiance). I was up walking around the next day and had an uneventful healing after that. I was not given pain killers, I was given a muscle relaxer to help with the port pain, which actually seems to be caused by the muscles spasming around the new object that was thrown in there (Which I guess, because they worked REALLY well, and did NOT make me loopy either).

I'm sure you'll be fine, BUT if you do not have full faith in your doctor, you should consider putting off your surgery. Our guts tell us stuff for a reason.

*hugs*

Thanks for the support. My guts has been feeling very "shaky" to this point. I have been trying to sort out whether is it preop jitters or real concerns over my surgeon. She did reach out to me and I am grateful. Everyone who knows me knows I have "a little black cloud". I try hard to not let my attitude perpetuate it. I want this so bad. I want my new life to start. I just wich there could be a little more empathy in the world and a little more kindness...

Hi Natashiki,

I will be banded next week also at UIC, by Dr. Ayloo (Horgan left). I am guessing you had yours done? My appointment with the anthesialogist (sp?) and the esphogeal mano.. will be done on the 7th. My barrium swallow is tomorrow. I have started my pre-op diet. Can you give me any updates? I am nervous but encourage by all I have read in this forum. Do you care sharing? Since it seems we will share the same hospital as well as the surgeon.

Thanks

The procedure went smoothly. Dr Ayloo is conservative and a great surgeon so you should sail through with minimal pain. You should not be too restricted. She gave me a "large" band so I have had no Restriction at all, I go for my first fill Sept 12th and get my band "activated" so to speak. Mary anne is the best. I did have a reaction to the bacitracin after surgery, that was the worst- so itchy. The recovery was otherwise smooth, I took off 5 days, and then back to work with no problem.

Feel free to ask me anything...

Hi, Thank you for getting back to me. I just came back from having the barium swallow done. Not as bad as I thought. Though, since I am on my liquid diet, so I can't get rid of the taste. I agree Maryann, is so helpful, willing and just excellent in her work. It just makes things so easier for us patients. I don't know about the size of the bands. Were you told before the surgery the sizes, or their function? I will be asking you maybe tons of questions, that is if you don't mind. I am so happy I came across this site, it is helping me in so many ways.

She told my husband after the surgery. I think she decides when she is in there. I like that I have a large band. I have no restriction now but they can adjust that. With a small band you are always restricted unless they remove it.

So far so good. I had the espogeal done yesterday, it it seems that I'm good to go for this WEdnesday the 13th. Scared?...Just because it will be unknown territory.

Natashiki, How are you feeling? How restrited is your diet? Did Dr. Ayloo tell you how much you had to loose, prior to the surgery? Sorry for all the questions, just a bit nervous.

Take care all.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
