Breezed through all of my clinics requirements in less than 4 months, and my insurance approved me an hour after reciving my records and request for approval, I'm afraid this may be the calm before the storm...my surgery date is April 2nd. I start my 10 day liquid diet on the 23rd of this month....I'm looking for advice of any sorts...im terrified of the pain that I've been reading on here but I also don't like the way the pain meds make me feel.,.on the plus side my husband came home with a new bathrobe and night gown yesterday for me..,and even new slipper socks so I won't have to wear the hospital stuff

5 days out myself. The morphine made me feel weird, nauseated and groggy. They switched over to the Elixir Lortab and that made all the difference in the world. Don't fear the pain as they will find the right pain meds for you and you don't even know for sure if you will have the worst pain, you could be one of the ones that has little to no pain.

What a sweet husband!!! You will look dashing walking the halls and do walk the halls! Walking is one of the best medicines against the gas buildups!!

Good luck with your surgery!!

Liberated...thanks so much! I'm nervous and excited at the same time...my husband has to leave the night I have surgery after I get settled and everything, we live 2 hours away from the hospital, and he has to go back to work :( did you find you had time to do other things like read in the hospital?

I took my own robe too, it felt so much better than the hospital gown. I listened to my MP3 player a lot - the hospital I was at has you up and walking quite a few times a day - I watched TV and dozed off a lot - I think I was too groggy to read. I didn't think the pain was too bad, I had morphine, then liquid vicodin but didn't use it. Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
