Have seen posts in the past for people who wear medical bracelets. Do you? If so, can you explain why and what your bracelet says. Not sure if I should get one!

I am wear a medical bracelet NSV.

IMO, i don't think it would be necessary to wear any type of bracelet signfying a "medical condition" of WLS - if you are at a restaurant, and they question you about using a childs portion, you can just give them some sort of explanation if you feel its warrented - but if you are rushed to the hospital for whatever - have had WLS shouldn't be reletive to any procedures.

If all is well, and you just have to mention certain medical conditions - then yes "by the way" I have had WLS.

Hmmm - I want to say yes but I only got to take of my diabetes bracelet off last month.

My husband is concerned if I were to choke what the heim. manuver would do...

what i was trying to say is that if you are in an emergencey situatiion - questions are being asked left and right about any medical conditions you have - like diabetes, epilepsy - these are important conditions that are relative to any problems concerning an emergency -

but maybe passing out at restaurant, well.... i'm rereading this, i still don't feel a bracelet is necessary, a friend with you would tell of your WLS -regardless answering the question i don't feel a WLS bracelet is bracelet. IMO

But if it makes you feel better to wear it, then thats ok too, How is that for a no answer, answer. Sorry

I thought about getting a tattoo on the inside of my wrist (In white ink so its discreet) that says "VSG 1/20/12 - No NSAIDs, No ASAs, No blind NG"

I don't think the question was aimed at long term wearing - but the extended time that our stomach is still subject to heal.

I think I have decided againt it, but if you are a lapband or plication to sleeve revision that suffered damage, or you have had a leak, etc. OR PREGNANT - perhaps a bracelet that gives a contact number rather than the typical bracelet.

Thing is I know everyone wants to be normal, but for now a new sleeve is sooo not normal. I can see several scenarios that a bracelet could save your life. Perhaps one of thedog collars, do drop under your clothing?

My diabetes bracelet was actually an italian charm. I often wondered if anyone would even notice, lol.

I would suggest you make an ICE on your phone that puts info on meds and such in a contact info note. I have always had that.

We need some medical community folk to chime in:

EMT/Emergency Room Triage Nurse - where/what are they telling you to look for as far as medical id's?

I have worked in the medical field and in the ER and of all the patients that came in for emergency situations I can not really think of much that would have made any difference if we would have know that the patient had WLS. The only situation this may affect would be a drug overdose where they might put an NG tube down into the stomach. Otherwise with cardiac, car accident, stroke, seizure, smoke inhalation, respiratory distress, diabetic reaction just to name a few would have no direct affect of the treatment that you would be given that is any different from a person that has had WLS to someone who has. Also if you did come in with a heart attack and they did give you a single aspirin I highly doubt that this one aspirin would cause you any problems with your stomach but it could save your life. They usually use more sophisticated medications that are IV if they suspect that you have had a major heart attack and you would probably be going to the cath lab or the ICU. I will try and think of any other situations that your WLS might be a major issue.

I was in the ER last weekend for chest pains (I believe an allergy) and I felt very unheard as far as my VSG. I don't think they felt it mattered. I was given children's aspirin.

Of course if I were unable to speak, they wouldn't be putting aspirin in my mouth at all.

Not sure it mattered in my case, but I would like to hear what the pros think.

Mine reads that I'm allergic to penicillin and give my specific heart defect.

The hospital where I had surgery gave me a little business card that has a picture of what a sleeved stomach looks like with liver and intestines on the front. On the back it says this person has had surgery to reduce the size of the stomach to hold 3 oz or less... it's the same one you can use at a resturant but, they told me to keep it behind my drivers license in case of an emergency. I was thinking about writing "VSG SX" on the back of my license with a sharpie. I believe the main concern in an emergency is an NG tube could cause damage.

My Dr wants all of his patients to get an ID bracelet or have an ICE card in their wallet at all times. Specifically for an NG tube.

My question was deff aimed at the long term - No Blind NG, No NSAIDS, No ASA's - I just wonder if anyone wears them. I wish I could find the old post!

I am thinking of new tattoo ideas as well....something to signify this crazy journey will be needed. I was thinking about something with my highest weight in roman numerals or something maybe to cover a scar or something.....
