1 Week Post Op Tomorrow - Losing Too Much Weight?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Tomorrow I am 1 wk post op and I've lost 14lbs already! Is that too much, or does everyone lose this much from Water weight. Also, did your weight loss slow down once you go to mushies?

Thanks in advance!

Nope I lost like a rocket too..40 pounds in 3 weeks...then it all slowed down to a stall for a week..then it kicked back in at a more "normal" pace. I'm 65 down now on week 6/7

Glow worms rule! I have 4 by my bedside that glow in the dark! But anyway I lost 21 lbs in the first 1.5 weeks, then NOTHING for almost a week now :(

do u think it's because you're on mushies?

I don't know, my mushies are almost the same. Protein Drink, greek yogurt, and then a small (very small) amt of Protein like tuna or eggs. I am only consuming 500 calories, 20-30 carbs, 2-4 grams of fat, and 60-70 grams of protein. Oh it maybe because it's my time of the month?

I was on cloud 9 when I lost almost 17 lbs the first week and then it came to a screeching halt on day 8 for almost 2 weeks!!!!!! After that I resumed losing, but nothing like that first week.

I have a sleeve sister that lost 21 lbs in one week and that was too much according to her doctor. You should ask your doctor.

That's awesome.

I lost 10lbs on my first week post op. stalled second week. Now on my 3rd week and losing again but around 1/5lb to 1lb a day. Have lost 17lbs in total.

At this stage (1 week out) about 60% of the weight you're losing is Fluid. So figure that you've lost 5 - 7 fat pounds, and 7 - 9 Fluid pounds. 7 pounds in one week is too high to maintain for a long period of time (so enjoy it while it lasts), but for right now when you're just starting it is fine.

It seems universal across all WLS procedures that between weeks 3 and 5 (give or take a week), inevitably there's a plateau - a short period of time with no loss of weight or size. This is your body's natural reaction to a drastic change in what your doing foodwise. Yes, that's the untechnical version. Expect it, and don't get discouraged when it comes. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
