First Day Swallowing /taking Vitamins

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days po and today I started my Vitamins.

In the a.m. You'll have 3...One you swallow and two you chew.

I did the capsule first cause I felt that swallowing the both of the chews after will help it go down easier too..

so it was yea.... uncomfortable. I felt it the whole way down and once it hit.

I sat up straight drank a bit and then a sip more after before my chewables.< /p>

It didn't hurt or make me gag just felt a little tight in the throat and on its way down. And the cheat area. Discomfort but not pain.

Then I burped and did one chew then another sip of Water and waited a minute.

Then burped again and ate the last chew followed by Water again after a minute.

Slow is the key but it's totally doable and I'm sure in time it'll be easy.

I only started soft foods yesterday so it's all new to swallowing now.

One things that they suggested to me when taking pills what can not be cut into smaller pieces was to take them with a spoonful of Jello as the jello will help open you up a little so that the pill has an easier time going through. I found this help and eventually I started to take all of my meds with applesauce. Make it more bearable as I had to take more than 1 for daily meds

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
