Surgeon Thinks I Am Unknowingly Overeating?!?

Recommended Posts

If I fill to the rim I get sick. Too full is not a good sleeve feeling.

Considering my meals consist of 6-8 bites of food and every bite matters, full to the rim for me means that if I take one more bite I will be uncomfortable, but I'm not yet uncomfortable. In other words, 6 bites = full, 7 bites = stuffed. Are you guys stopping sooner than that?

Oh this is a good read. I'm still I'm fluids but I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow where he may put me on the soft phase and I'm really terrified of how much to eat, Or if I'll know when I'm satisfied. I'm scared to eat too fast or too of big of bites.

liquids are easy cause I know what I should be having with my Water intake but real food yikes!

My surgeon and NUT want me to weigh not measure in a measuring cup. All the info they have given me goes by ozs for food and beverage. When I had my 1 week visit I confirmed for my Protein they want it weighed.

It's definitely 2-3 oz. by volume and not by weight. 2 oz = 1/4 cup, etc. There are guides online describing what servings look like. The general rule is: 3 oz of chicken or meat looks like a deck of cards, whereas 3 oz of fish looks like a checkbook. 1 oz of cheese is about a 1 inch square cube. If it's semi solid of course you just throw it in a measuring cup. The individual ones work best.

My suggestion would be to talk to your surgeon & NUT because it isn't the same all the way around. Mine want me to weigh so I weigh, he hasn't steered me wrong yet... I'm down 50 lbs in 5 weeks. :)

That sounds right. I think the phrase "full to the rim" is being mistaken by your doc. Maybe you should start saying "until I feel satisfied."

Oops: I realize you are not the OP - I thought you were. But yes, it sounds like you're doing it just right.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
